Warning: Spoilers ahead for the Schitt's Creek season 6 episode, "Smoke Signals".

The Schitt's Creek season 6 premiere reveals why Alexis Rose will be sticking around town for a little longer than expected. The character played by Annie Murphy had her exit strategy all planned out as she prepared to leave the small-town life behind, at least for a few months. In typical Rose family fashion, a hilarious mix up means the former socialite will need to hold off with her big vacation plans, but the flub actually opens up an opportunity for another character.

Alexis remained in a committed relationship with Ted Mullens (Dustin Milligan) throughout Schitt's Creek season 5. The romance was stronger than ever, but the couple was put to the test when Ted was offered a six-month job opportunity in the Galapagos he couldn't pass up. After much consideration, and confusion as to why exactly Ted was going to the island, Alexis decided to accompany her veterinarian boyfriend. Ted left Schitt's Creek the night that Cabaret opened in town, which served as the Schitt's Creek season 5 finale. Since Alexis was part of the cast, she was set to meet up with him a week later, but viewers now know that is no longer the case.

When Schitt's Creek season 6 begins, a week has passed since the first night of Cabaret and Alexis is making it known how excited she is to leave town. She's annoyed that the rest of the family doesn't seem bothered that she's leaving. David (Dan Levy) and Patrick (Noah Reid) go to check out a wedding venue; Alexis invites herself along so they can drop her off at the airport following the visit. When David doesn't seem concerned about Alexis missing the wedding, the siblings get into a big argument. Both of their feelings are hurt and Alexis seems like she can't wait to leave fast enough. Unfortunately, while trying to check-in for the flight early through her phone, Alexis learns that she mixed up the dates on her plane ticket.

How Alexis Got Herself Stuck In Schitt's Creek For Another Month

While Alexis was worrying that she was "moving to a place that doesn't have a Sephora for literally 2,700 miles," she failed to notice that her flight was for August, not July. After having trouble checking in for the flight, Stevie (Emily Hampshire) helped her figure out that the date listed was the day before the month, so her ticket was actually for August 7th, meaning she wouldn't be leaving for four more weeks. Alexis tries to play it off and pretends that she decided on her own to stick around town so that David and Patrick could take the fast-approaching wedding date open at the venue. David quickly realizes his sister's mix up, claiming that she did the same thing when she showed up late to Kate Winslet's wedding.

Alexis finally fesses up to her mistake, but she still urges her brother to take the venue now that she will be sticking around. Upon learning that the venue is in close proximity to a pork processing plant, as indicated by squealing pigs, David and Patrick decide to look elsewhere. That said, it seems like the pair will get married before Alexis leaves for the Galapagos, meaning that she will be around to help with the planning. It was never an option for Alexis to be absent from the final season of Schitt's Creek. The most likely scenario is that the entire season is set to take place over the course of a month before the Rose family moves on to the next chapter of their lives.
