Warning: Spoilers ahead for the Schitt's Creek season 6 premiere, "Smoke Signals."

The Schitt's Creek season 6 premiere episode hints at what's to come for the Rose family before the Canadian sitcom closes out. The sixth season will also serve as the show's last, much to the dismay of fans. The final installment is serving up to be the show's best, but it seems like big changes are on the horizon for our favorite dysfunctional family.

When Schitt's Creek first debuted, it followed Johnny and Moira Rose (Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara) as they were forced to leave their luxurious life behind in order to move to a small town with their adult children, David and Alexis (Dan Levy and Annie Murphy). They lost their fortune and were left with one asset - the ownership of a town called Schitt's Creek that Johnny once bought as a joke. After living together in a motel, the Rose family learned how to embrace their new surroundings but they always kept a glimpse of hope that they would somehow get back to their past lives.

Since living in Schitt's Creek, the Rose family finally had a chance to bond. They're closer than ever before, but the days of living in adjoining motel rooms are in the rearview. David and Alexis have plans for the next step in their lives while their parents must decide whether they want to stay or leave. Those around the family are also asking themselves what the future holds. By the end of the season, Johnny, Moira, David, and Alexis will most likely be tasked with a whole new family dynamic.

Big Changes Are Ahead For The Rose Family On Schitt's Creek

Johnny gets caught skinny dipping

After spending a week sleeping in a closet following the news that her latest movie was shelved, a burning breakfast pastry was the only thing capable of forcing Moira out of her funk. She realizes that her acting career has not been kind to her and she's ready to give it up. That is, until her agent informs her The Crows Have Eyes III: The Crowening has been picked up by a streaming service so it looks like her career comeback is back on. Johnny, meanwhile, seems content with slowing down and embracing their lives in Schitt's Creek. It's as if he doesn't need to get back to his old life in order to find happiness. Living and working in the small town looks to be enough for Johnny at this point.

Season 6 will be a change of pace for David as he's now engaged to Patrick (Noah Reid). Their wedding may come sooner than expected with Alexis sticking around town for another month. What hasn't been discussed, however, is how David plans to tackle married life while living in Schitt's Creek. Unlike the rest of his family, David has no interest in escaping the town. He's the kind of person who needs to be constantly working on a new project but with Rose Apothecary thriving and wedding planning only lasting a short while, David will need something else to look forward to. Alexis, on the other hand, has plans to meet Ted (Dustin Milligan) in the Galapagos. Whether she makes it there or not, it seems likely that the pair will end up together but it might be harder to keep her in a small town since she still has big dreams.

Stevie (Emily Hampshire) isn't a Rose but she's an honorary member of the family considering how they treated her like one of their own over the years. Ever since she came out of her shell to perform in Cabaret, Stevie realizes that there's a whole world out there and she needs more in life than running a motel. Schitt's Creek season 6 will see a lot of changes and it could very well see Stevie testing the waters at a new career or opportunity that takes her out of her comfort zone.
