Schitt's Creek is a weird little sitcom with a literal village of characters to get to know, but the best of them is Patrick Brewer. The Canadian-produced series follows the absurd lives of the Rose family. A once rich and elite clan, they lost it all and had to move to the tiny town referenced in the series title, which they had jokingly bought many years before. The show airs original episodes on the small Pop channel and found a bigger following when it began streaming on Netflix.

Schitt's Creek was created by Dan Levy, who also plays David, the pansexual, fashion-forward son of the Roses. He is also the real life son of comedy legend Eugene Levy, who plays the Rose family patriarch and fallen video rental king, Johnny. Rounding out the family is mother Moira (Catherine O'Hara) and daughter Alexis (Annie Murphy). In season 1 of Schitt's Creek, the family moves into a motel run by the unimpressed and flannel-wearing Stevie Budd (Emily Hampshire). They encounter the town's mayor, Roland Schitt (Chris Elliott) and his wife Jocelyn (Jennifer Robertson), as well as naive diner waitress Twyla (Sarah Levy) and smiling garage owner Bob (John Hemphill), plus a great number of other denizens. A true fish-out-of-water story, the over-the-top Rose family's daily interactions with this equally unusual cast of characters can feel like a cartoon world come to life.

In season 3 of Schitt's Creek, the very ordinary character of Patrick Brewer (Noah Reid) moved into town, and before long he would prove himself to be a great addition. A recurring figure in Schitt's Creek at first, Patrick was an office worker helping David cut through the red tape in order to start his business, Rose Apothecary. He is never outlandish or hyperbolic. He is the antidote to the madness that is everyone else in Schitt's Creek, and that's why he's the best.

Patrick and David eventually become a couple and get engaged on Schitt's Creek - leading up to what will likely be their wedding in the series finale later this month. This romantic pairing of the button-down shirt and jeans wearing Patrick with the overly manicured, high fashion outfitted David is a coupling that works. Patrick's grounded approach immediately dials back the manically insecure David's outlook on life. Even by just glancing at David, like when Rose Apothecary finally opened, he can calm David down.

It's as though by introducing Patrick, Schitt's Creek was able to add a representative for all the home viewers. While the show wouldn't work with a town filled with Patrick's, it needed him to exemplify how real people behave. His genuineness and relatability are his greatest gifts. Schitt's Creek, currently in season 6, will wrap things up shortly. The series finale airs on Pop on April 7. Let's hope it gives Patrick, and the rest of the townsfolk, the happy endings they deserve.
