Jocelyn Schitt is the ever-loyal, ever-smiling wife of Schitt's Creek's mayor, Roland Schitt. Jocelyn is more than a wife, though, taking pride in her profession as a teacher than molds minds, and having fun as the leader of the local girls' singing club, The Jazzagals. Jocelyn is also the proud mother of Mutt Schitt before she gives birth to another baby, Roland Moira Schitt, later in the series.

Behind her sunny exterior is a woman with a will made of steel, a mind full of wisdom, and a heart full of love, even to those who don't deserve it. Jocelyn is quick to give advice, because she loves her friends, and always wants to see them happy.

Best: Love Your Neighbor

Jocelyn Advising Moira in Schitt's Creek

"I know you hate your hair, Moira. Almost as much as you hate this town. But there's a possibility you could be here a really long time. May I offer you something? The people here are just trying to help you, and there'll be days when your wigs need conditioning. Or one of your fashion-y blouses shrinks in the dryer, and you'll have to go to Janine's. Or get a shirt at the Blouse Barn, just like the rest of us. And I would hate for that day to catch you by surprise."

When Moira first moves into the Rosebud motel, she has difficulty adjusting to her new life. Having downgraded from being a millionaire to living in a shared space motel with her family, Moira cannot accept her surroundings and hates her new life. To calm her anxiety, Jocelyn takes her out for a spa day, where they get full makeovers. Moira has her hair styled in big curls like Jocelyn, which she hates. Kindly, Jocelyn advises her to try to be nice to her neighbors in Schitt's Creek and Elmdale, because she might be stuck in the town for a while, and would need the help of everyone to survive.

Worst: Let Alexis Audition

Schitt's Creek Alexis Performing A Little Bit Alexis During Auditions For Cabaret.

Jocelyn and Moira begin auditions for their next big star in their production of Cabaret, and the two are having difficulty finding their Sally, the protagonist of the musical. Many of the women in town have unsuccessfully auditioned, so Jocelyn asks why Alexis has not auditioned. Moira responds that she does not think bringing Alexis in would make sense, to which Jocelyn advises Moira not to act like a jealous mother. Jocelyn believes that some of Moira's talent would have rubbed off on Alexis, but Alexis' disastrous, but equally hilarious, audition would be one of the most defining moments on the show, giving birth to the classic hit, A Little Bit Alexis.

Best: Be Grateful

The Roses standing in front of the garden dedicated to Moira.

"I think it would make Johnny really happy to make you happy. I mean, take Roland. Every year he buys me coconut macaroons, and I just don't have the heart to tell him I am really allergic to coconut. Yeah, every Valentine's Day I just rash right up. Last year my throat almost completely shut."

Moira often takes Johnny's love for granted, because Johnny absolutely adores her. Johnny does everything for Moira, which is often a thankless task. Jocelyn, who has been married to Roland for decades, advises her friend that the secret to a good marriage is to never complain when one's husband buys the wrong gift or does the wrong thing in his effort to declare his love. She encourages Moira to be grateful to her husband, if she wants her marriage to last.

Worst: Chocolates Can Mean Bad News

Schitt's Creek Jocelyn And Moira Seeing Auditions For Cabaret

"I now see that there are different ways to interpret chocolates."

After Alexis' tragic audition for Cabaret, Moira tells Jocelyn that she has to break the news to Alexis that she did not get the part. Moira reasons that since Jocelyn wanted Alexis to audition, it was now her responsibility to hurt Alexis with the bad news. Moira brings chocolates with her to see Alexis, hoping the treats would soften the blow. Instead, Alexis misinterprets the chocolates as a sign that her audition was successful, at which point Jocelyn advises herself that "the chocolates were a mistake."

Best: Take Your Education Seriously

When Alexis returns to high school to get her high school diploma, she initially does not take it seriously. She arrives in a classroom full of teenagers, disrupting the class, and making it all about her. She is still the self-centered Alexis who only cares about fashion, makeup, and celebrities. Subsequently, Jocelyn pulls her to the side to advise her that she needs to put her old ways behind her, if she wants to stay in school and earn her diploma. Jocelyn's advice is one of the key moments that would push Alexis to take her maturity more seriously.

Worst: Burn Your Husband's Exes Things

Schitt's Creek Jocelyn And Moira Standing Together

"I once found a bag of Roland's ex-girlfriends' bras. Burned them. Except for the ones that were my size."

Jocelyn is fiercely possessive of Roland, and never lets anything get between her and her husband. When Moira finds some old love letters that Johnny had written to some unknown woman, she is agitated, and shows Jocelyn the letters. Jocelyn advises Moira to burn the letters, stating that she had burnt some old bras of Roland's exes except, strangely, the bras that fit her. Jocelyn might act jealous, but she is still frugal and economical.

Best: Believe In Your Children

A pregnant Jocelyn holding Moira's Hand as Roland looks on in the hospital.

"Listen, I can't speak to who Alexis was before you came here, and from what I've heard I don't really wanna dig any deeper into that, but what I can say is this. I have watched your daughter, over the last couple of years, grow into one of the most amazing people I've ever known. She is a hard worker, she is kind, and she is capable of so much more than people give her credit for."

Jocelyn tells Moira that her daughter has matured into a wonderful young woman, which proves to be true when Singles Week, which Alexis planned, becomes a roaring success for the town.

Worst: "They're Boys. It's Cute!"

Roland And Johnny At Dinner. Roland is laughing and Johnny looks concerned.

Despite her salt-of-the-earth wisdom, Jocelyn betrays her ignorance with some of the advice she gives. When the Roses first meet her, Jocelyn introduces herself as a local school teacher. She then inappropriately boasts about how all the boys are "undressing me every time I drop a piece of chalk." Roland, also inappropriately reacts to this with jealousy, in a bizarre scene meant to show the couple's backwards mindset. Jocelyn advises Roland not to be jealous, but to just see it as 'boys being boys', revealing her low expectations for the boys in her class.

Best: Don't Let Fear Stop You From Going For It

David and Moira performing during Asbestos Fest Schitt's Creek

"You know what, Moira, we have all been there. Yeah. On my wedding day, I thought, what if I just got in my car and drove to New Mexico, and left Roland at the altar at the Elmdale Bingo Hall? Bottom line, I got cold feet too, and I faced my fears, and now look at us! Twenty-seven years of bliss!"

Although Moira makes fun of Jocelyn for her "little anecdote", Jocelyn's advice helps Moira to face her fear, and to go on stage and perform to roaring success for the Asbestos Fest.

Worst: Failure Is Exciting

Johnny and Stevie in business meeting

The series ends with Johnny, Stevie, and Roland pitching their idea for a worldwide hotel chain to investors in New York. The investors laugh their ideas out of the boardroom, but a startup invests in the idea, bringing good news, finally, for the Roses. Johnny and Roland refuse to tell their wives over the phone whether they secured funding, leaving Jocelyn and Moira apprehensive about whether the meeting had been a failure. Jocelyn advises that the possibility of failure, in her opinion, is exciting.

"It's like Deal or No Deal, but with the rest of our lives," she says.
