Schitt's Creek has become a cultural phenomenon over the last year, providing audiences with tons of laughs and zany characters to fall in love with. One of those beloved characters is the family matriarch Moira Rose, played by the fabulous Catherine O'Hara.
While O'Hara has been making audiences laugh for decades, she truly shows off all her talents when playing Moira Rose. In fact, her portrayal was so iconic that she won every major acting award in the 2020-2021 award season. It's a testament not only to her acting abilities, but also the reliability and hilarity of Moira Rose and the journey she goes on over the course of the six seasons.
"Wine And Roses" (Season 1, Episode 6)
Moira Rose is a lot of things but topping the list is that she's a phenomenal soap opera actress. Her successful career on Sunrise Bay helps her land a commercial for a local winery that specializes in fruit wines. Ever the professional, Moira agrees to do the commercial despite hating the fruit wine, and hilarity, of course, ensues.
It can be hard for characters to stand out in the first season of the show, but Moira truly shines here. It's also a great episode to rewatch for fans of the I Love Lucy episode where Lucy films the "Vitameatavegamin" commercial.
"Family Dinner" (Season 2, Episode 2)
"Family Dinner" is hands down one of the most iconic and hilarious episodes of Schitt's Creek of all time. After being accused of not knowing how to cook, Moira enlists David's help to make her famous enchilada recipe that really belonged to their chef.
What's not to love about Moira and David yelling about "folding the cheese" in? Not only that, but it's one of the first episodes fans get to see Moira bonding with David, a relationship that only flourishes as the show goes on.
"Moira's Nudes" (Season 2, Episode 9)
For many, the idea of nude pictures of oneself on the internet is a horrifying thought. But for Moira, the existence of her nude pictures on the internet is more of a rollercoaster. At first, she's alarmed, especially since she is running for town council, but when she can't find them, she begins to freak out, fearing she's lost them forever.
What makes this episode so great is that fans get to see Moira's range of emotions as she deals with this mess. It's also hilarious to watch Moira force Stevie, Alexis, and even David to do a Google search for her nudes.
"New Car" (Season 3, Episode 3)
After living for two seasons without a car of their own, Johnny is determined to finally buy one. The only problem is, Moira wants to tag along to make sure Johnny doesn't buy something impractical. What ensues is a hilarious charade of Johnny trying to get the best deal while Moira tries to remain the classy former soap opera star she was/is.
This is a great Moira episode for so many reasons, but part of it is Moira's ability to forget their original mission in an attempt to withhold her esteemed reputation.
"Asbestos Fest" (Season 4, Episode 3)
Season 4 was peak Moira zaniness and it all kicked off with the third episode, "Asbestos Fest." In the episode, Jocelyn is hosting a fundraiser to get rid of the asbestos in the town and she enlists Moira to headline the act. Of course, Moira can't decide on an act, which frustrates Jocelyn to no end.
In the end, Moira gets to dazzle on the fundraiser stage alongside David, who helps her resurrect an old television routine she used to do. This is the perfect Moira episode to watch for fans who want to see her be the showstopper she is.
"RIP Moira Rose" (Season 4, Episode 5)
Moira Rose has another battle with the internet in season four when a rumor goes around claiming that she has passed away. What should be a horrendous gaffe ends up being great for Moira, who gets showered with love from her friends in the town and strangers online. However, when only one reporter shows up in the town to cover her "death," Moira becomes frustrated that they found out where she actually lives and that only one reporter has shown up.
Once again, Moira's over-the-top personality steals the episode and brings audiences to tears of laughter. This episode also has Moira wearing a one-of-a-kind curly wig as part of one of her most memorable outfits.
"Meet The Parents" (Season 5, Episode 11)
"Meet the Parents" might not be an entirely Moira-centered episode, but she does get her moment to shine. With a little convincing from Alexis, Moira agrees to appear at a soap opera convention, where she'll meet with fans and sign autographs. While Moira isn't thrilled at first, she warms up to the idea, especially since she can charge money for the autographs, which will help her fund Cabaret.
This is a fun Moira episode to watch for fans who go to conventions themselves. It's not only interesting but hilarious to see Moira's feelings about the convention world. Plus, Moira attempting to sell pictures of her feet is hilarious.
"Life Is A Cabaret" (Season 5, Episode 14)
After a season's long journey of creating the town's production of Cabaret, the opening day of the show finally arrives. But when Stevie goes missing, Moira goes into full panic mode and ends up getting ready to go onstage herself if Stevie doesn't arrive.
Not only is this yet another episode where Moira shows off her star-power, but it's also an episode where fans get to see Moira's emotional, nurturing side. The pep talk and support she gives Stevie before she takes the stage is enough to bring anyone to tears.
"The Premiere" (Season 6, Episode 5)
Season 6 is another big season for Moira, as she awaits the premiere of her movie. With a little help from Alexis, they stage the premiere in town which, like everything with Moira, is a rollercoaster of emotions and changes. While they put on a great premiere, disaster strikes when real-life crows begin to act the attendees.
The episode is a great Moira one, not only because fans get to see her hard work pay off and her finally getting to walk the red carpet, but also because it's one of the best Moira/Alexis episodes of the show.
"Moira Rosé" (Season 6, Episode 7)
Everyone loves a good callback to earlier seasons, which is what makes this season 6 episode so great. Despite the disaster that was the wine commercial, Moira is asked back to the fruit winery because a wine is being named after her. She enlists David's help to sample some wines and of course, the two get drunk.
Seeing Moira try to hide her disgust with the fruit wine never gets old, which is why this is a must-watch for any Moira fan. Plus, it's an adorable bonding moment for David and Moira, who have truly become a powerful mother-son duo.
