Love was in the air after the previously wealthy Rose family moved to Schitt's Creek. Fans spent six laugh-filled seasons cheering on Alexis and David as they found unexpected romance in the rural small town, and Johnny and Moira becoming closer as a couple. Whether it was Alexis and Ted's will-they-won't-they relationship, or David and Patrick's wholesome balance between starting a business and a life together, Schitt's Creek had some of the most memorable pairings on television.

Nothing was ever predictable about the series, making some fans wonder if it hadn't ended the way it did, whether or not certain characters would be together. Some of the best relationships never got to be fully highlighted, leaving some fans theorizing what might have been if every romantic angle had been explored.

Stevie & David

David's effeminate charisma and Stevie's boyish charm created some of the most alluring chemistry on the series and highlighted the subject of pansexuality. When the two sarcastic misanthropes hooked up fans were elated, but due to some internalized insecurities on both of their parts, their romance didn't last long.

Many fans were rooting for Stevie and David to stay together and develop a serious relationship, but as David explained to her he didn't want a Friends With Benefits situation to ruin their actual friendship, and he needed her more as a friend. It was because he valued her so highly that he didn't want to lose her permanently if they ever broke up.

David & Mutt

When David's knits were in dire straights thanks to a moth invasion, he decided to build a cedar chest to protect his cashmere. The only problem was he had no woodworking skills, leaving him helpless in the fight against holey sweaters. Luckily Mutt was available to help him out, but his assistance gave David the wrong idea.

After misconstruing his neighborly offer to build the chest as a romantic advance, David tried to let Mutt down gently, explaining that he'd already had passes made to him by another one of Alexis's boyfriends. While he was perfectly happy with Alexis, fans were left wondering if the breezily confident laid-back enough Mutt might have gone for it if he were single. It wasn't surprising that the next person David hooked up with (Jake) was a laid-back guy who's fond of flannel and good with his hands.

Twyla & Ted

Two of the sweetest people in Schitt's Creek, Twyla and Ted couldn't have been more different than the Roses but they opened their hearts to the family and connected with them in different ways. Twyla and Alexis both dated Mutt, but only Alexis dated Ted, something which seems strange considering Twyla was someone who probably would have recognized Ted's great qualities sooner than her friend.

After Ted came back from the honeymoon he was supposed to spend with Alexis, tanned, scruffy, and sporting a classic motorcycle, he was getting a lot of attention. Fans caught the way Twyla was looking at him, and many wondering if Alexis would miss out on the new and improved Ted 2.0. It turned out she didn't have anything to worry about, because he was still way too stuck on her to ever consider Twyla

Stevie & Alexis

While Stevie was primarily David's friend, she spent some time with his sister, who seemed to know a lot more about Stevie's emotional inner workings than her brother. It was Alexis who picked up on the fact that Stevie was floundering in Moira's adaptation of Cabaret, and knew that Stevie needed some assistance being David's maid of honor.

With her flannel shirts, jeans, and laid-back attitude, Stevie was a lot like Alexis's other romantic interest Mutt, which left fans to wonder whether or not Alexis would have rolled in the barn with her instead.

David & Ted

While at first the nerdy but charming vet and the neurotic entrepreneur didn't seem to have a lot in common other than Alexis, Patrick's housewarming party changed all that. During a particularly frisky game of Spin the Bottle, a very buzzed Ted planted a kiss on David that surprised him as much as fans.

Before Ted and Alexis had resumed dating for the second time, Ted had a heart-to-heart with David and the latter demonstrated real understanding of Ted's situation. His empathy allowed for an intimate moment where Ted could be his most vulnerable, leaving fans to wonder if they could have made a good couple if their situations had been different.

Alexis & Twyla

Alexis and Twyla enjoyed a unique friendship over the course of the series, with both of the women growing closer towards each other every time Alexis came into Cafe Tropical for a post-run smoothie. What began as a self-absorbed socialite dumping her problems on a kind waitress blossomed into unlikely friends teaching each other about different perspectives.

For different reasons, Twyla and Alexis were often unlucky in love, but they were there for each other through all the ups and downs of romance. Fans could only dream that if their paths in life were different, perhaps Twyla would have left the cafe and taken off for New York in a budding romance with her city girl.

Sebastien Raine & Jake

When Sebastien Raine, one of David's old lovers, appeared out of the blue to have a photoshoot with Moira, David couldn't believe his misfortune. What was even more bizarre was how Sebastien Raine didn't run into the local lothario, Jake!

Sebastien had a reputation for being materialistic and only after whomever could further his ambitions. Jake was a furniture builder who was open to polyamory. Had he ran into Jake, whose wholesome vibe and casual orgies might have been just what he needed, Sebastien might have finally stuck around. Plus, he couldn't have found a better subject to photograph.

Ray & Patrick

Ray Butani and Patrick Brewer with their arms folded on Schitt's Creek

Ray was one of the only characters in the series whose sexuality wasn't stated in one way or another. It was conjectured that he was too busy selling Christmas trees, running auctions, granting business licenses, renting houses, and taking photos to have a relationship, which made it all the more plausible that he would be with someone who could keep up with him.

Patrick ended up becoming involved with David, but he could just as easily have dated Ray if Ray was so inclined. For many fans, Ray deserved love just as anyone else on the series, and it wouldn't have surprised anyone if he'd had a crush on his assistant, who was as ambitious and business-minded as he was. After all, he was fine keeping the door to David and Patrick's room open while he made them pancakes.

Johnny & Jocelyn

Johnny and Jocelyn discussing Roland at Cafe Tropical

Johnny and Jocelyn were the two long-suffering "straightmen" to their eccentric partners Moira and Roland. Time after time the pair found themselves commiserating at Cafe Tropical about what their significant others had done, especially when Roland used one of the rooms at the motel to get some space, or Moira fell asleep in Roland's room at the Hospies.

Johnny and Jocelyn would always stand by their partners no matter what, but that didn't stop fans from wondering what their lives would have been like if they'd found each other, and married slightly more stable people.

Moira & Ronnie

Ronnie And Moira In Schitts Creek

Ronnie never liked Moira from the moment they met, and things didn't get better when Moira tried to get a "key demographic" for her seat on city council by giving an awkward speech in front of some unimpressed entrepreneurs at Ronnie's house. Still - could the flames of petty ire be fanned to true passion?

While Ronnie's orientation is never explicitly stated, she's seen canoodling with someone after Moira's keynote speech, and later when Johnny and Roland take Bob out on the town, she picks up a female patron from the bar. Perhaps all her hostility manifested from the fact that she secretly liked Moira but was much too tough to show it.
