It’s no cakewalk, summarizing the enigma of Schitt’s Creek’s Alexis Rose in a few words. The former teen model and socialite has dated some of the most famous men and had a high-profile, jet-setting lifestyle until her family found out they had gone bankrupt and had to move to a seemingly podunk town.

Alexis had the most tremendous arc on the show, that documented her emotional growth; she went from a spoiled, rich brat to a caring, hard-working, self-reliant person. However, there are some details about her life that are not fully explained on the show and fans have often made speculation about them. Here are some hidden details about the fabulous Alexis Rose that might give fans a better perspective on her character.

She Adapts A Boho Wardrobe Because It’s Economical

Alexis’ hippie chic dresses and boho styling won major brownie points from the show’s fans. But it’s a very obvious tactic for the fashionista to be able to look great on a budget. In the first episode of Schitt’s Creek and also from the glimpses of pre-bankruptcy Alexis, it’s pretty clear that there was absolutely nothing low-key about her personal fashion.

She arrives in Schitt’s Creek in an all-white belted number with a very trendy jacket and carrying a Celine tote and is seen wearing an A-line silk dress when the family learns about their bankruptcy. And all her dressier numbers which she had bought while rich are very flamboyant and flashy; so it’s easy to conclude that after losing her money Alexis hit nearby thrift stores, flea markets, and online shopping for updating her wardrobe in the small town.

She Is Protective Of Her Dad

When Ted asks Alexis about their move to the Galapagos Island, she tells him that she’s worried about leaving her dad alone since Moira and David gang up on him at times. This indicates that Alexis has grown a lot closer to her dad since they started living in Schitt’s Creek.

It makes sense because the family members lived in very close quarters which united them in curious ways but Alexis knew her mum was somewhat indifferent to her, while her dad Johnny was superbly protective of his daughter and wanted to make up for his past negligence.

Not A Great Millennial Influencer

The key to understanding Alexis’ broader social relevance actually lies in her character design. Annie Murphy and Dan Levy have admitted that early 2000s icons like Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian influenced the character of Alexis. The show’s fandom has often wondered about Alexis’s social media presence - isn’t she an influencer and doesn’t that come with some monetization opportunities?

Why wouldn’t she chronicle her small-town life on Instagram? But Alexis isn’t exactly a great millennial influencer because she doesn’t journal every moment of her life on social media; she’s more of an old school influencer, like Paris Hilton, Olsen Sisters, or Nicole Ritchie who are famous for being famous, and only publicize certain aspects of their life and not all of it.

Not A Great Long-Term Partner

There’s no doubt that Alexis has undergone tremendous growth during her time in Schitt’s Creek, but she is still not a competent partner since she doesn’t really get a compromise. The show’s message was very clear - Alexis chose herself over anyone else and she also didn’t want Ted to lose out on his dream project.

But before they broke up she was someone who didn’t quite understand the kind of work that goes behind a steady, long-term commitment the show ends without Alexis exploring her potential as a reliable romantic partner, but then again, that was how the show differed from other sitcoms which are usually hellbent on achieving some sort of a romantic fulfillment for lead characters.

Changes Her Hair To A Low-Maintenance Do

Alexis Schitt's Creek

Alexis had a chic, relaxed hairdo when she was first introduced; in fact, the first season shows her sporting impeccably styled and prong-curled hair. But something like that takes a lot of work and since she had no access to a stylist or even a decent hair salon in Schitt’s Creek, she switches to blown-out beachy curls which need less upkeep and can be styled with just some hair spray or volumizer.

In fact, from season 4 onwards, Alexis also embraced her dark roots which meant she was probably looking to save up by not going for frequent root touch-ups.

She’s Drawn To Unavailable Men

Alexis’ dating history proves that she likes dating men who would be hard to get or are challenging to be with. She dates Prince Harry who had quite a bit of a reputation as a womanizer, the same goes for Jared Leto, Zac Efron, and Adam Levine. She was on a text-based long-distance relationship with Josh Hartnett when he was shooting for Pearl Harbour.

She dated a Sultan’s nephew who wasn’t just forbidden to talk to her but even couldn’t look at her. Alexis is attracted to Mutt when she sees him dating someone else, and also realizes her feelings for Ted after he embarks on a relationship with Heather. It’s possible that Alexis only enjoys the thrill of the chase.

Wants Her Mom’s Approval

Alexis and Moira share a tricky relationship; despite all the love they have for each other, Moira isn’t exactly Alexis’ go-to person. David, Johnny, or Twyla get more trust than her mom gets from Alexis.

Moira, can’t seem to remember Alexis’ middle name, doesn’t want to spend time with her or even have lunch, and doesn’t have Alexis’ number on her phone! But Alexis does want her mom’s approval, it’s clear that she is in awe of her mum and respects what she does and low-key she wants her to be proud of Alexis. This is why she’s so sad after she was rejected at the Cabaret auditions or when Moira wasn’t enthusiastic about her single’s event pitch.

Drinks Multiple Green Juices A Day

If one paid even a little attention to Alexis’ diet, it would be very obvious that Alexis is pretty vigilant about eating right. Since she didn’t have access to a personal chef, a good gym, or even nutritionists or wellness experts that she probably relied upon when she was rich, she only eats healthy.

She drinks multiple green detox juices a day, which is something Hollywood names are also pretty regular about, though Alexis gets her green juice from Cafe Tropical. Even when she’s out to dinner with her family, Alexis is usually seen eating a bowl of fruit, a plate of salad, or some nuts.

Relies On Accessories To Look Rich

Since Alexis couldn’t upgrade her wardrobe with the straight-from-runway numbers anymore, she relied on her designer accessories and shoes to make her look chic. It’s interesting to note that her wardrobe isn’t completely devoid of designer clothes; she still has Isabel Marant and Saint Laurent mini-dresses in her collection. But chances are Alexis never gave ready-to-wear brands like Reformation or Zara a chance before she had a financial crunch.

So, in Schitt’s Creek, she teams up her economical fashion with some pretty incredible designer accessories and bags. She is seen sporting some obviously expensive velour thigh-high boots with simple boho dresses. She also teams up simple denim cut-outs with accessorized fedoras, chunky leather bags from French luxury brands like Chloe along with printed tunics and designer ankle boots.

Does Not Have A Bankable Social Currency

Schitt's Creek David, Moira, and Alexis.

It’s difficult to gauge the extent of Alexis’ fame - is she an out-and-out famous socialite like Kylie Jenner, or a low-key rich girl with a fabulous life like Cressida Bonas or Serena van der Woodsen from Gossip Girl. If Alexis really did have a life that was jet-setting in her pre-bankruptcy life, it’s quite difficult to understand why she would be completely devoid of a social life when she was in Schitt’s Creek. Surely E! Or Bravo would be running circles around her to film a reality show on her family, or she’d at least have quite a few million followers on Instagram or she’d be able to score some work via famous friends and move out of Schitt’s Creek sooner.

But considering how Alexis was quite literally cast aside by her social circle, it’s obvious that she didn’t have the social capital that someone in her position or with her personal history should have. Either that or she deliberately cut off all ties with Hollywood and her socialite friends which seems unlikely.
