Alexis Rose (played by Annie Murphy in an Emmy-winning performance) is one of Schitt's Creek's most energetic and feel-good characters with a noteworthy character arc that sees her considerably mature over the show's seasons. She's initially introduced as a spoilt socialite who hardly has a job or a complete education. But in her new life at Schitt's Creek, she succeeds at rebuilding herself.

Graduating from school, juggling between various professions, ending toxic relationships, and getting closer to her family. All of this helps Alexis live her best life, making herself more content and independent with life.

Healthy Self-Confidence

While her mother Moira Rose can be quite overconfident at times, Alexis has a healthy dose of self-confidence. At the start of the series, she has her insecurities but gathers enough confidence to get over them. This is highly evident in her diverse professional pursuits.

Her general confidence is also memorable when she auditions for the town's Cabaret production, performing an original song of hers called A Little Bit Alexis. The song and her dance routine seem heavily amateurish and yet she manages to light up the room with her cheery persona.

Give Yourself A Break

Alexis And Tedd In Schitts Creek

Every now and then, Alexis takes out enough time to give herself a good break from the everyday tussles of her life. In her pre-Schitt's Creek life, Alexis had a knack for celebrity parties and globetrotting adventures. Her new small-town setting might restrict those activities but Alexis still knows how to live in the moment.

One can expect her to randomly take a break from her job and throw an impromptu party or just laze around doing nothing all day. But unlike her brother David, her procrastination or lethargy soothes her rather than inducing any panic. She also takes good care of her physical health, running being her go-to stressbuster.

Let Go Of People

Alexis and Mutt might have seemed like a cute pairing at first but their feelings fizzled out within a few episodes. Alexis, who is shown to have had a tumultuous dating history, faces the choice of dating Mutt yet again when he returns to town. But she controls her impulses and doesn't show any further interest. While Alexis's impulsiveness has been of great help, it can be a weakness too at times.

Another mature step is when she lets go of Ted despite genuinely loving him. She understands that a job in the Galapagos means a lot for Ted as Schitt's Creek hardly offers any prospects for a man of science like him. Coming to terms with her own professional interests, she decides that some heartbreaking decisions are important in life. At least, in the end, Alexis got a heartwarming closure with Ted.

Ditch Fake Friends

Alexis and Klair in Schitt's Creek

In the Season 4 episode Baby Sprinkle, Alexis encounters an older friend Klair who happens to pass through the town with her other rich friends. In the entirety of the episode, Alexis undergoes the realization that a vast majority of her friends in her past life were mostly shallow and fake in their mannerisms. Some even leeched on her just for her high-ranking social status.

So, when Klair offers Alexis an opportunity to get out of Schitt's Creek, Alexis rejects the offer for she wishes to stay away from such toxic friendships.

Spend Family Time

Like the rest of the Rose clan, Alexis gets closer to her family while staying at the Rosebud Motel. Even though David can be quite annoying at times, she still is willing to listen to his rants and tries to calm him down in moments when his insecurities are triggered.

She helps Moira in restarting her acting career, doing a fine job as her publicist. She's the one who reveals to Moira how the lead actor of Sunrise Bay had led to her removal from the show, allowing Moira to put strike a bargain to return to the show later on. Additionally, Alexis also helps Johnny in other basic tasks like operating a phone.

Don't Let Greed Get The Best Of You

While Alexis does miss her million-dollar lifestyle, her stay in Schitt's Creek also brings her to terms with a sense of responsibility. She's determined by the final season to earn money with her own hard work.

So, even when Twyla reveals that she had won a large amount of lottery money and is willing to give a part of it to her, Alexis refuses. She truly believes that Twyla should keep the money to herself and keep on serving the town's citizens with her usual selflessness. She then goes on to encourage Twyla to spend her money on 'something really special' every once in a while.

Have Good Negotiating Skills

Alexis And David In Schitts Creek

While David has also bargained a lot in business deals, he often comes off as being blatantly rude or tense. This can be contrasted with Alexis's calm behavior in handling such agreements, a skill that helps not only her but the people around her. As mentioned before, she has often helped Moira to broker deals that helped kickstart her career, with regards to the Crows film and the Sunrise Bay reboot.

For David, Alexis is of great help when the store that he works for undergoes a name change. She gives him much-needed confidence while posing as a business associate.

Stand Out From The Rest

Alexis and Johnny Rose in Schitt's Creek series finale

Alexis comes off as a bit 'extra' with her demeanor, although she wouldn't come off to be as dominantly over-the-top as her mother. She stands out from everyone else in the vicinity, thanks to her carefree attitude, easygoing tone, and unique fashion choices. In fact, at David and Patrick's wedding, she herself wore what seemed like a classic white wedding dress.

Never Crack Under Pressure

Alexis and Ted in Schitt's Creek

While working at Ted's clinic, Alexis once broke the news to a client that their cat died. Even when the usually-positive Ted panics in fear, Alexis calmly handles the situation by informing the distraught client about the death, while consoling her. She adds that she can now invite a romantic partner home who would otherwise avoid her for his cat allergies.

This scene brings out Alexis's commendable social skills showing that even in the face of trouble, she can be cucumber cool. Even during the unprecedented 'crow attack' at Moira's movie premiere, it's Alexis who turns the disastrous event into a trending topic on social media.

Diversify Your Work Record

For a person who went from being essentially jobless to launching her own company, Alexis has come a long way in life. Rather than assuming her skills from the start, she's ready to explore more and more options in life before she finds the right one.

This would explain her transition from a clinic receptionist to a publicist. She might not have the required training for each of these roles, but yet she manages to acquire her skills with time rather than cribbing about her lack of experience. Her journey highlights the importance of actual work experience rather than just relying on bookish knowledge.
