Mother-daughter duo, Moira and Alexis Rose, didn't have the strongest bond at the start of Schitt's Creek. They were both far too self-involved to worry about the other, and because of their hectic traveling schedules, the two never had a real chance to get to know each other. Moira appeared to be closer to David than Alexis due to his lack of finding real friendship before Stevie.
As the show continued, Moira developed a soft spot for her daughter that she didn't have before. Slowly but surely, Moira and Alexis repaired their relationship and were closer than ever by the series finale. But before they became familiar with each other, their low moments (albeit hilarious) were dark for family members.
Best: Moira Took Care Of Alexis When She Was Sick
In "Bob's Bagels," Alexis fell ill and spent the day in bed. At first, Moira was completely disturbed by Alexis' sickness and refused to enter her room in fear of catching something herself. Now that they were in Schitt's Creek, Moira didn't trust the medical services nearby in case the illness is serious.
However, something changed for Moira as the day went on. Seeing her daughter sick in bed stirred a maternal emotion in her that she hadn't felt before. By the end of the episode, Moira hopped in bed with Alexis and snuggled with her the best she could.
Worst: Singles Week
As Alexis was getting her own public relations company off the ground, she gave town hall the idea of hosting a singles week. Each day would be different activities and chances to meet singles in the area. Alexis was well-organized and trained for the day, but Moira made her feel insignificant.
When Moira got whisked away due to Jocelyn's contractions, she warned Alexis not to start the events without her because Alexis would be a wreck without her help. Alexis listened to her mom but there came a point when the show had to go on. Alexis ran the event successfully on her own without her mother's help. Moira totally underestimated Alexis and tried gaining control as soon as she was back at the event.
Best: Moira Performed At Alexis' Graduation
Moira and Johnny were flummoxed when Alexis admitted that she didn't graduate high school at the expensive boarding school they paid for. In order to get a college degree and fulfill her dreams of working in public relations, Alexis had to go back to high school.
On the day that she graduated, she told her parents that they didn't have to come, but deep down, she wanted them there. It was a big accomplishment for Alexis and the look on her face said it all when she looked out in the audience and didn't see her parents. That all changed, however, when Moira and the Jazzagals came onstage for a surprise performance of "Baby I'm Yours."
Worst: Their Cafe Date
In season 3, Alexis reminded David that he was Moira's favorite child. David denied the allegation but it was proven true when Moira burst into the room and asked David out to lunch and not Alexis. Because of this, the two ladies decided to put their differences aside and meet for lunch just as Moira and David traditionally did.
As funny as their awkward lunch date was, it was actually filled with sadness. Moira and Alexis didn't know how to act around each other when it was just them one-on-one. Moira was so uncomfortable around her own daughter that she even wrote questions down on a napkin to ask Alexis.
Best: They Team Up For Moira's Acting Career
When Alexis became more focused on her own career, she became her mother's publicist under her own company, Alexis Rose Communications.
Her new career move couldn't have come at a better time because her mother was also trying to get her acting career off the ground. It was because of Alexis' help that Moira's acting chops were recognized again. These two had come full circle by the end of the series.
Worst: Alexis' Middle Name
Before arriving in Schitt's Creek, Alexis drove her car into the front of the Prada store and needed to complete a certain amount of community service hours. Moira attempted the paperwork for Alexis but found herself stuck when she didn't know Alexis' middle name. When she gave the paperwork for Alexis to finish, Alexis caught on that the only thing not filled in was the middle name section. Both Moira and Johnny contemplated if they were good parents or not after this scenario. They were all so disconnected.
Best: Their Bonding Moments At The Autograph Signing
In "Meet The Parents," Alexis convinced Moira to attend a soap opera convention for extra cash. At first, Moira is against the idea because she saw it as a low point in her career. But when it comes to dollars and cents, Moira had no choice but to do it and reconnect with those who have supported her for all those years. Moira went through with the convention and ended up having a marvelous time, especially after running into an old frenemy. Film and television's Moira Rose had Alexis to thank for that day well spent.
Worst: Moira Was Against Alexis Joining Cabaret
When Schitt's Creek put together their own production of Cabaret, Jocelyn was at a loss in terms of casting. Everyone auditioning didn't have the spark that Moira and Jocelyn were looking for. But when Alexis heard about the auditions, she happily offered her talents. Jocelyn was thrilled to have someone like Alexis audition, but Moira was mortified. Moira claimed that Alexis wasn't a good singer and didn't have what it took to land a leading role. It was unfortunate that Moira didn't believe in her daughter's talents — regardless if she was right or wrong.
Best: The Bar Scene
"Girls' Night" was a very telling episode for Moira and Alexis. After running into Ted and his new girlfriend, Moira ranted and raved about how beautiful Ted's new lady was. Unbeknownst to her, Alexis was still heartbroken over losing him
Moira realized how little she knew her daughter and tried making up for it by becoming her personal driver for Alexis' girls' night with Twyla. By the end of the evening, Alexis was too sad to flirt with strangers, so she left and called her mom. Luckily for her, Moira never left and gave her sage advice about love.
Worst: Moira Doesn't Know Alexis' Phone Number
When Johnny landed himself in the hospital for severe heartburn, Moira was beside herself. She wasn't ready to lose Johnny and would be a mess without him. She tried calling David to meet them at the hospital but he wasn't answering. When Johnny asked her if she tried calling Alexis, she hilariously didn't think about it and asked if anyone had her number. As comical as it was, it's quite sad that Moira's love for her son supersedes her admiration for her daughter.
