Although Tesla models don't demand frequent maintenance, owners are still expected to schedule service appointments now and then. While electric vehicles are often advertised as a more sustainable option for mobility, automakers also mention that buyers will spend less to maintain them. Unlike plug-in hybrid cars, EVs aren't shipped with an internal combustion engine. Hence there are fewer fluids. Also, the regenerative braking feature available in many electric models today, including Tesla's, helps reduce the chances of brake wear.

Tesla has maintained its grip on the EV market mainly because it has been overly committed to electrifying transportation. Unlike legacy vehicle manufacturers, Tesla has had an all-electric vision from the start. In August, reports confirmed that the automaker's models were among some of the best-selling models in the first half of 2022. Although competition is emerging, with releases from General Motors, Nissan, Ford, and many others, it may take a while to surpass Tesla in the industry. Interestingly, a study conducted in June 2022 claims that German automaker Volkswagen will overtake Tesla as the largest EV company by 2024.

Tesla recommends that when a service visit becomes imperative, then customers should initiate the appointment process. They can do that by simply using the Tesla mobile application, which also acts as a digital remote control. Upon opening the app, users should select the 'Service' option and then choose the topic they would like to be handled. When the 'Details' screen pops up, Tesla owners should provide a comprehensive explanation of the car's trouble. The report should be accompanied by details of when it last occurred and the frequency. Customers are also encouraged to send photos associated with the issue. They can also reschedule or cancel booked appointments.

How To Prepare For The Service Appointment

The first step is remote diagnostics which Tesla undertakes to get an idea of the problem and procure the necessary parts to fix it. After that, its service team may contact the customer to collect the necessary information. For issues related to charging, drivers are required to bring their cables along. Once the team is ready for the customer's visit, the latter will receive a cost estimate through the mobile app. Customers can opt to approve the estimate or review it at the time of the appointment if they disagree with the valuation.

Upon arriving, customers must have a key fob and key card. They may also be invited to test drive the Tesla to illustrate the problem for the service team. The mobile app can give customers real-time information about the car's status. It'll also notify them once it's ready for pick-up. For Teslas involved in a collision, the automaker can arrange alternate transportation using the owner's insurance company.
