Elizabeth Olsen has outlined her one condition for headlining her own solo Scarlet Witch movie following Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Olsen, who is set to reprise her role as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel, first made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the post-credit scene of 2014's Captain America: The Winter Solider. She would later make her proper debut as Wanda in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, in which she served as one of Hydra’s experimental test subjects along with her twin brother, Pietro Maximoff.

Last year, Olsen also headlined the MCU’s first interconnected television series WandaVision, alongside Paul Bettany’s Vision. Set a mere three weeks after the events of Avengers: Endgame, Olsen’s Maximoff inadvertently found herself taking a small town hostage in a magical alternate reality she had conjured out of grief. Finally gaining her “Scarlet Witch” moniker, the series revealed that Maximoff could harness a legendary form of magic known as “chaos magic.” The series finale’s post-credit scene also showed her studying from Agatha Harkness’ Darkhold – a powerful magical grimoire expected to have a significant impact on the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

With the Doctor Strange sequel just days away from release, Olsen has been asked by On Demand Entertainment whether she would be willing to return to headline her own solo film. Admitting that she would consider a Scarlet Witch movie if Marvel “have a good story to tell,” Olsen suggested that she would first need a short break from the role. Check out her comments below:

Interviewer: "Wanda’s had her own TV series, which is fine, but when is she getting her own movie?"

Olsen: "Oh, I don’t know, but if they have a good story to tell, I’ll be there."

Interviewer: "After a long break first?"

Olsen: "Yes, exactly, or even a little one. Just some version of a break."

Olsen’s need to take a break from Scarlet Witch following Multiverse of Madness, even a brief one, makes sense given how much time her work in the MCU would have consumed the past few years of her career. Not only has Olsen moved straight from working on WandaVision to Doctor Strange 2, but she has consistently been playing the same character for the past eight years. It would seem that Olsen is optimistic about her continued future in the franchise, however, and it is encouraging to hear that the actor is willing to helm her own solo adventure.

Exactly where Wanda’s MCU future will take her remains to be seen, but many fans are keeping their fingers crossed that it may relate in some way to the introduction of the X-Men into the franchise in Multiverse of Madness. In the original comics, Scarlet Witch has a complex and often murky familial relationship with Magneto. With Marvel currently expected to be working toward the eventual inclusion of mutants within the MCU via the multiverse, perhaps a solo Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch film could go a long way to establishing this relationship. Either way, exactly what Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has in store will be revealed very soon when it releases on May 6, after which the speculation about Scarlet Witch’s future will surely be rife.
