Warning! Spoilers ahead for Trial of Magneto #5

In the final issue of Marvel ComicsTrial of Magneto, the Scarlet Witch gets a surprising new name and legacy amongst mutantkind. While Wanda Maximoff was seemingly murdered by someone with ill-intent at the end of the X-Men's Hellfire Gala, the truth has since come to light. Apparently, Wanda's death was all part of a much larger plan to redeem her dark past and sins committed against mutants, resulting in the new name she receives going forward in the Marvel Universe.

Given Wanda's history with House of M where she accidentally caused the near-extinction of mutantkind, the Scarlet Witch has never received much love from the mutant community. Furthermore, when it was revealed that she and her brother Pietro were not the biological children of Magneto and weren't even real mutants, Wanda was called the "Great Pretender" by the mutants of Krakoa. However, The Trial of Magneto #5 reveals the lengths Wanda has gone to finally make things right.

In the new issue from writer Leah Williams and artist Lucas Werneck, it's revealed that Wanda's murder was the work of Wanda herself. Needing access to Krakoa's resurrection protocols, the Scarlet Witch worked with her father to die and be brought back, making it look as though she has been murdered so that mutantkind wouldn't reject the gift she had planned. Having been brought back, Wanda uses her new connection to mutant resurrection to create a magically artificial afterlife in the astral plane. This allows Cerebro to scan the lives of mutants across time and space to bring back mutants from before it began its memory backups, as well those whose X-genes hadn't activated. Now, no mutant will ever be left behind or fall through the cracks, ensuring that all could be brought back. Thanks to Wanda, twenty million lost mutants get added to the resurrection queue, and she gains a brand new name from Krakoa as a result: The Redeemer.

Thanks to Wanda's orchestration of her own murder, the Scarlet Witch was finally able to make up for her sins against mutants (and it's about time). House of M and her devastating nervous breakdown with the iconic "no more mutants" line was almost 16 years ago. As such, it's long served to be a black cloud that's hung over Wanda's head, often hindering her efforts to be a hero in the Marvel Universe. Now, a new day has dawned for Krakoa and Wanda herself. Not only did the Scarlet Witch and Magneto reunite as father and daughter before her brief death despite their lack of a biological connection, but her gift to mutantkind sees her finally being accepted by Krakoa as well.

While Wanda Maximoff isn't technically a mutant, she's certainly a major part of mutantkind's history as a terrible villain of the past and now as a great savior. As such, "The Redeemer" is a perfect new name for the Scarlet Witch. Her gift is the perfect way to make up for her past, making sure that "no more mutants" would be left behind in the Marvel Universe ever again.
