Scarlet Witch's Death Echoes Her Darkest Moment With Marvel's Mutants

Scarlet Witch - No More Mutants Death

In Marvel's House of M event, Scarlet Witch famously lost control. She uttered what's become her most iconic line, "no more mutants," changing reality and erasing most mutant powers from existence - making the number of mutants in the Marvel Universe go from the millions to the hundreds. While the change would eventually be undone, it made Scarlet Witch one of the X-Men's biggest enemies; to this day, she remains a target by some mutants on Krakoa who haven't forgiven her.

Since the House of M event, the "no more mutants" line from Scarlet Witch has been repeated in a few hilarious ways. For example, in Avengers vs. X-Men: VS #6, Rachel Summers headbutted Wanda Maximoff while telling her, "no more nose." Meanwhile, a humorous comic during the Original Sin event joked that Scarlet Witch actually meant, "no, more mutants," instead of the line that wiped about powers across the globe. However, the newest version of the line is much darker, as it leads to Wanda's death.

Ultimately, Scarlet Witch's death at the hands of Mr. Sinister's corruption not only flips her most iconic comic book line on its head but shows how much the villain respects what the magical hero is capable of. Sinister took Wanda off the board, knowing full well her powers could combat his changes to reality. Still, using Scarlet Witch's "no more" line against her had to be one of the most satisfying way to kill her for the evil mutant. Sins of Sinister #1 by Marvel Comics is in comic book stores now.
