Warning! Spoilers ahead for SWORD #6

Magneto and Scarlet Witch just reunited their family in the latest issue of Marvel Comics' SWORD. While the Marvel Universe is reeling from the X-Men terraforming Mars, a major feat lead by Magneto, the Master of Magnetism is much more focused on the late arrival of his estranged daughter Wanda at the Hellfire Gala's end. As a result, it's a very big night for Magneto in more ways than one, and his own personal future is going to be just as wild and crazy as the X-Men's no doubt will be.

In Marvel's SWORD #6 from writer Al Ewing and artist Valerio Schiti, the X-Men's premier space defense program has set up a summit with several dignitaries and high profile individuals from around the galaxy, seeking to make their case for why they should be allowed to participate in galactic trade. Offering "Planet Arakko" as their new and more unified capital world (rather than Earth), SWORD is also providing the brand new and valuable metal they've developed that they're calling mysterium, believing that it will help stimulate the galactic economy. But while all this is happening, despite Magneto having played a massive role in terraforming Mars and assembling the mutants to get the job done, he's elected to celebrate and drink alone on Krakoa as the Hellfire Gala comes to a close.

But Magneto receives a surprising visit from none other than Wanda Maximoff's Scarlet Witch, who decided to accept his invitation with an intentionally late arrival, seeing as how Wanda found herself unable to face mutantkind after she caused a near mutant genocide during the House of M storyline. This was probably just as well, as many on Krakoa refer to her as "The Pretender," not only because of her betrayal of mutantkind but also due to her powers not coming from an X-Gene, but from experimentation by the High Evolutionary instead. However, despite Magneto not being her biological father, that hasn't stopped him from trying to reconnect with Wanda, whom he still sees as his daughter. By the issue's end, it seems as though the pair have decided to reunite, choosing to be a family regardless of the biological truth or their respective past mistakes.

SWORD-6-Magneto-Scarlet-Witch-Reunion

While it's a very sweet moment for the two of them, it will undoubtedly create some serious repercussions going forward. If Magneto intends for Wanda to live with him on Krakoa, it's almost a guarantee that he's going to receive some major backlash due to the vast negativity and hatred mutantkind has for his chosen daughter. Furthermore, his words about doing what he must to make things right seem quite foreboding. While Magneto is a leader and hero of Krakoa, he's never been one to shrink in the face of opposition. As a result, some major rifts could be in the works between Magneto and his fellow mutants, particularly with those he leads alongside on the Quiet Council like Charles Xavier.

Whatever happens, Scarlet Witch and Magneto's reunion is a very touching scene at the end of the Hellfire Gala. In spite of the potential consequences that lie in store, it does seem as though Magneto made the right choice for his character. If he can achieve redemption from his dark past, why can't Wanda? Since plenty would argue that Scarlet Witch's crimes against mutants far outweigh her "father's," it's going to be interesting to see how Magneto handles the pushback and conflict that will inevitably come in future X-Men comics.
