The murder investigation of Scarlet Witch has not only yielded theories on suspects, their motives, and the murder weapon, but has led to other forms of deductive reasoning, such as a new way that Wanda Maximoff could take on Thor. Her son Wiccan, believing that the metal ore uru may have been used against her, discussed it as a strong substance that can be made incredibly malleable via enchantment. As the primary component of Mjolnir, Scarlet Witch could undoubtedly use the ore’s unique structural susceptibility to magic to disassemble it and shape it to her will. There are not many characters who can turn Thor’s mighty hammer into a plaything, but this is yet another way that Wanda’s mighty magic can bring a cosmic-level character to a standstill.
Uru is usually viewed as an asset, given its enhanced durability and an ability to remain enchanted for long periods of time, allowing Mjolnir to entrap an ancient storm god. In analyzing the main component of his fellow Avenger’s signature weapon, Tony Stark essentially discovered that it is a substance that absorbs magic at unprecedented levels. There are also similarities between it and DC’s Nth metal in that it develops a synergy with its wielder, further enhancing their own powers and abilities. Thor is famous for using his hammer to gain and enhance a wide array of powers. That is why it is so shocking that Wanda has an opportunity to turn it into a major liability.
When searching for what strangled Scarlet Witch as part of X-Men: Trial of Magneto #4 by Leah Williams, Lucas Werneck, David Messina, and Edgar Delgado, Wiccan suggests that enchanted uru may be the murder weapon, noting that it is incredibly malleable when enchanted. Wanda can learn from this theory, even if it wasn’t the source of her own demise. Should Thor or any of the other uru-enhanced Avengers try to wield this metal in battle against Scarlet Witch, she could simply enchant such weapons and bend them to her will, employing a battle strategy that is similar to how Magneto uses Captain America’s own shield against him.
This builds yet another interesting element into any simmering conflicts between Avengers, as Thor has a vulnerability that goes beyond just destroying Mjolnir, as other characters have done. The God of Thunder’s hammer has recently been melted by a cosmic cube, courtesy of Shang-Chi, and Loki, Perrikus, and Molecule Man have all taken it out of commission in other ways but using it against Thor is seldom done.
X-Men: The Trial of Magneto is offering a master class on how the weapons of the Avengers can be used against them, as Magneto redirected Captain America’s shield at Iron Man. It is precisely because uru so readily accepts enchantments that Mjolnir is such a powerful weapon. The flip side of so wholly absorbing magic is that Mjolnir becomes unpredictable when Thor wields it against a magic user of Scarlet Witch’s magnitude, meaning he’d have to abandon it in such situations or risk having it used against him.
