Scarlet Witch Will Star In Doctor Strange 2; Connects To Disney+ Series

After appearing in WandaVision, Scarlet Witch will return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Played by Elizabeth Olsen, Wanda Maximoff first appeared in the post-credits scene on Captain America: The Winter Soldier to set up her role in Avengers: Age of Ultron. While initially an antagonist, she has since become one of the most powerful heroes in all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Scarlet Witch has incredible hex powers that allow her to manipulate objects, minds, and all of reality if she chooses, and the latter appears to be something that will be explored in her Disney+ series WandaVision. But, with her incredible abilities, fans have long wanted to see her team up with the MCU's Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch). This will now happen in the Doctor Strange sequel.

Marvel Studios confirmed the news during their Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con. There are no details on what exactly her role will be in Doctor Strange: The Multiverse of Madness, but the title does tease that she'll be involved in some major events. Furthermore, her role here will directly connect to the storyline of WandaVision.

Scarlet Witch joining the cast of Doctor Strange 2 is a big step up for the character on the big screen. She has mostly just been a side character in past MCU movies, but her role here could elevate her to the most prominent one yet. Strange will still be the star of the movie, and Benedict Wong is expected to return as Wong, too, but Wanda could be the second-biggest character in the film. She will also help Marvel continue their habit of including fellow MCU heroes in "solo" outings, and she is a natural fit next to the Sorcerer Supreme.

While we now know that the full title of the sequel is Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, her exact role in the movie is not yet known. Olsen will star in WandaVision ahead of her return to the big screen, and whatever happens in that series will have some ramifications on the Doctor Strange sequel. There have been rumors that it could deal with Wanda messing with reality, so it is possible that she will be the one who cracks open the multiverse and draws the attention of Strange. In any case, it is likely that Strange will serve as a mentor to Wanda in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and help her learn to better control her powers after the events of WandaVision.
