Game Freak recently revealed Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's box art mascots, and the Generation 9 Legendary Pokémon could be designed around a scrapped concept from Pokémon Sun and Moon. After months of anticipation, Pokémon fans finally got a massive Gen 9 update with a second Pokémon Scarlet and Violet gameplay trailer that dropped on June 1st. The video concluded by unveiling the Gen 9's new Legendaries Koraidon and Miraidon. However, the mysterious Dragon Pokémon have many similarities to a dropped feature seen in concept art for Gen 7, Pokémon Sun and Moon.

When Pokémon Scarlet and Violet was originally announced in February, Game Freak gave players their first look at the upcoming RPGs by announcing Gen 9's Starters Fuecoco, Sprigatito, and Quaxly. With a massive amount of mystery still surrounding Pokémon Scarlet and Violet following its announcement, many fan theories and speculation began to circulate online about what the new region could look like. Many eyebrows were raised after Scarlet and Violet Legendary Pokémon Koraidon and Miraidon were officially revealed, though, when the new Legendaries seemed to match up with a leak that was posted online in May.

In the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet leak that was posted on Twitter weeks before the June trailer, it was claimed that the box art Legendaries would both be Dragon-type Pokémon that could transform into five different vehicle forms to be ridable by players. Many fans began to believe the leak to be real after the Gen 9 Legendaries were revealed to be Dragons designed around motorcycles. Scarlet Legendary Koraidon, for example, has a giant wheel on its chest, while Miraidon has jet engines on its feet. While a surprising theory, the vehicle Pokémon could actually be a scrapped concept from Pokémon Sun and Moon's Alola region.

In 2017, The Pokémon Company released the Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Essential Art Book as a part of the game's release. The special book contained never-before-seen art from the development of the Gen 7 RPGs. The art book also featured several scrapped feature ideas, such as the use of vehicles in the Alola region. In one of the dropped concept art, Blastoise can be seen riding on a yellow truck acting as a fire-fighter vehicle.

The Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon artbook had many additional concept arts of Pokémon integrated with vehicles. Interestingly, several leaks and rumors since April claimed that the new Gen 9 Pokémon Scarlet and Violet region would incorporate concepts and features that were originally planned for previous generations. While this was never confirmed, many fans have noticed the similarities between the scrapped Pokémon Sun and Moon vehicles and the potential for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Legendaries to be ridable like cars.

Pokemon Scarlet And Violet Legendary Designs May Be Scrapped From Sun And Moon Concept Art

Only time will tell whether the rumors shake out, but the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Legendaries Koraidon and Miraidon undeniably have elements of vehicle parts incorporated into their core designs. With Game Freak stating that the new Gen 9 region will be a completely seamless open-world map that players can tackle in any order, it begs the question of how players are going to get around quickly.

Adding more fuel to the vehicle rumors is that the new Scarlet and Violet Pokémon Centers have been changed to portable gas stations. Throughout the June trailer, there can also be seen several checkered racing flags, that seem to tie into the vehicle motif that seems to be all over the new gameplay video. Pokémon fans won't have to wait long to see if the leaks are accurate as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will officially release on Friday, November 18th on the Nintendo Switch.
