The main story of Scarlet Nexus, the latest RPG from Bandai Namco, is divided up into two narratives that focus on two separate characters: Yuioto Sumeragi and Kasane Randall. While the overreaching story still mostly depends on getting through both storylines, some players may be wondering which character is better (and which is easier to start with).

While reviews for Scarlet Nexus have been mostly positive, the game isn't without its flaws. Part of this can be the repetitiveness of playing through the story as two different characters with two different perspectives. The game's primary plot revolves around monsters called Others, which come out of an otherworldly phenomenon called the Extinction Belt. Both Kasane and Yuito are members of a group tasked with protecting humanity from these monsters.

Early gameplay trailers for Scarlet Nexus already revealed the heavy anime aesthetic and characters, and both Kasane and Yuito feel a bit one-note at times. However, both characters have very different personalities. Yuito is the descendant of the country's founding father, and is compassionate and optimistic. Kasane, meanwhile, is the daughter of a weapons manufacturer; she's often indifferent to the people around her but is loyal to the ones she cares about (like her adoptive sister). Based on personalities, it really comes down to whether or not someone wants to play as a more stereotypical hero (Yuito) or one that's a bit more rough around the edges (Kasane).

How Scarlet Nexus' Two Protagonists Are Different In Combat

Personalities aside, the combat in Scarlet Nexus is fairly similar whether someone chooses Yuito or Kasane. Yuito has a long sword, while Kasane has multi-blade attacks - and both characters possess psychokinesis abilities. However, Yuito usually hits a bit harder if his attacks are just slightly slower than Kasane's.

The action in Scarlet Nexus is mainly the same, but Yuito almost always learns skills before Kasane. He learns how to rebound from attacks before Kasane, and he also gets the option for an extra accessory at the base of his skill tree (whereas Kasane learns it at the next level). Because of this, first timers may want to go with Yuito first, since he's a little easier to make powerful early-on.

It's a strange decision to slightly alter skill trees for Kasane and Yuito in such a way, but it will really just come down to player preferences as to which character they'd like to choose to play as first in Scarlet Nexus. The differences are subtle, and in order to see everything the game has to offer, players will need to get through both storylines regardless.
