Gunn has taken the first two Guardians movies to glory with an all-star cast including the likes of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and Dave Bautista. However, when the intergalactic rogues took to the cosmos again in 2017's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Gunn really upped the star power to include cameos from notable actors and actresses such as Sylvester Stallone, Michelle Yeoh, and Ving Rhames. Vol. 3 will have to pull out something special to top its predecessors, and Gunn is already on the hunt for more big names to cast.
The idea of Scandal stars Tony Goldwyn and Joshua Malina taking part in a Guardians movie came about on the last day of production on Shonda Rhimes' political drama. After playing Fitzgerald Grant for all seven seasons of ABC's show, Goldwyn took to Twitter to remind fans he is technically unemployed now. And after working with Goldwyn on The Belko Experiment, Gunn replied that he would happily work with the 57-year-old again, leading to Twitter agreeing that he should find a place alongside Star-Lord and co.:
Goldwyn responded in kind, asking Gunn if he was actually serious, but the fan-casting didn't stop there. As the corrupt attorney general and sometimes adversary of Grant, fellow Scandal star Joshua Malina also threw his hat into the ring. While he admitted that he only knew Gunn through watching his movies, he also demanded a job alongside Godwyn to suit up and shoot for the stars in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
I know each of you separately. By the Transitive Law, I demand a job. https://t.co/Ysgw6TMQCL— 🌎Joshua Malina🌎 (@JoshMalina) March 16, 2018
While it may just be the ambitions of two actors after their main source of income has come to an end, Goldwyn could definitely be one to watch. Gunn has a habit of working with the same stars on several projects and even cast his brother (Sean) as Kraglin in the first two Guardians movies. Elsewhere, Gunn's long-term friendship with Nathan Fillion led to the Firefly actor having a small role in Vol.2 that was ultimately cut before the movie hit theaters. Mark Hamill also hinted that he wants a role in Vol. 3, so Gunn, Kevin Feige, and the rest of the MCU had better start locking down its big names.
Alongside the return of Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha and rumors that Adam Warlock will finally arrive in the MCU, little else is known about where Vol. 3 will take the Guardians, or who will even be alive after the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4. However, with the potential return of Stallone and the "original" Guardians, fans should expect Gunn to introduce a whole host of new characters to move the series forward. The third entry in the popular space franchise just might be Gunn's last Marvel film, but he promises that it will pave the way for even more Guardians movies and a much larger cosmic MCU. Who knows, perhaps Goldwyn and Malina will appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to help do just that.
