The trailer and poster for Saw 9 reveal that the film is officially titled Spiral: From The Book of Saw. The Saw franchise started in 2003 when James Wan made his short film, which was later adapted to a feature-length movie starring Leigh Whannell, Cary Elwes, and Danny Glover. The series would continue for seven more movies, taking a seven-year break in between Saw: The Final Chapter and 2017's Jigsaw

Conversations about Saw 9 started only a few months after Jigsaw was released, but it wasn't until the middle of last year that the Saw spin-off from Chris Rock was announced. The announcement came as a bit of a surprise since Rock is mostly known for his comedic work, but Rock reassured fans that his film would remain bloody and gory, with humor sprinkled in. Rock wrote and produced the film, with Darren Lynn Bousman, who directed Saw II-IV, sitting in the director's chair once again. A few weeks ago, the title of Saw 9 was reportedly revealed, and now it has been confirmed.

Lionsgate released the film's first teaser trailer and poster this morning, which confirms that Saw 9 has been officially titled Spiral: From The Book of Saw. You can check out both the film's trailer and poster below:

While the original Saw was considered an original and fresh addition to the horror genre, the same can't be said for the seven sequels. Like most horror franchises, the original is often deemed the best of the series, with the following films being criticized for mostly relying on gore to shock the audiences. Even after the seven-year gap between Saw: The Final Chapter and Jigsaw, Lionsgate still couldn't win back fans. That being said, clearly, the poor reception of the sequels hasn't killed the franchise, with the studio hoping that Rock can resurge the series.

Up until today, the plot for Spiral had been kept mainly under wraps. Even now that the trailer has been released, the plot is still largely a mystery. The trailer makes it clear that a new serial killer is targeting cops, but it's unknown when and if Spiral fits into the original Saw's timeline. The subtitle From the Book of Saw could mean that the film will revolve around a copy cat killer that was inspired by John Kramer, but that of course hasn't been confirmed just yet. The film's release is only a few months away, so horror fans don't have to wait that much longer to find out exactly what Rock has in store for horror fans with Spiral: From the Book of Saw.
