It has barely been a year since Spiral: From the Book of Saw was released last year to extremely mediocre reviews, but Lionsgate has just announced the 10th Saw movie. However, even the bad movies in the franchise are successful, as audiences show up in droves to see them, so it's hardly surprising that another Saw movie is on the horizon.

Details are sparse about what the movie is about and if it follows on from Spiral, which is doubtful, but Redditors have been quick to conjure up where they think the series should go. Between putting Jigsaw in space, wanting older characters to return, and opinions on director Kevin Greutert, Saw 10 has inspired some passionate thoughts.

More Convoluted Plot Twists

If there's one thing Saw is known for, it's how the narrative gets increasingly confusing with each consecutive release. And while the franchise is full of plot twists everyone saw coming, it's also full of ridiculous shocks and surprises, such as who is really involved in the games, and Asimovliu makes fun of exactly that. The Redditor has an idea for the sequel, explaining, "Every survivor was a secret apprentice all along."

In Saw II, it's revealed that Amanda Young, who is in the funhouse full of traps with several other civilians, is Jigsaw's apprentice. And in Saw VII, the series pulls the same trick, and it's revealed that Dr. Lawrence Gordon is one of Jigsaw's apprentices. At this point, revealing that every single survivor became an apprentice is the least surprising plot twist that could happen.

It Should Cross Over With Fast And Furious

Saw is essentially like the horror answer to the Fast and Furious series. Like the blockbuster action franchise, Saw gets more ridiculous with each release, and the traps become more meticulous. But, it originally started as a grounded crime movie, and that's essentially what The Fast and the Furious is.

Redditor Igby1 wants to connect the two franchises and see a crossover movie, arguing that it'd be a box office smash hit. The Redditor posits, "A Fast and the Furious/Saw crossover would do numbers." Seeing Dom stuck in a Saw trap and figuring out how to escape rather than just using brawn would make for an interesting experiment, or Lionsgate and Universal could just remake Saw II but with the Fast characters.

It Should Be In Space

Jason X - Horror Movie So Bad It's Funny

The-Jerk-Store wants to see the 10th Saw movie in space, and though that doesn't make much sense, they still make a good argument. The Redditor uses another horror flick as a defense, noting, "If it's not in space they done gone f***** up. Jason X is how you do a 10th entry."

The 10th Friday the 13th movie did see Jason in space, but it made for one of the most critically scathed horror movies of all time. However, for as hated as it is, Tarantino at least loves it. And if the horror franchise crosses over with Fast and Furious, it's halfway there, as F9 saw the Fast family go into space in a rocket-powered Pontiac Fiero, and the car still has a Nos canister in it.

It'll Retcon The Series... Again

Saw - Amanda in Bear Trap

Where ever Saw sequel seemingly retconned the previous movie, or at least delved deeper into the story that created tons of plot holes, Jigsaw doubled down on that, and Spiral threw all the lore out of the window. It seems like John Kramer's reasoning behind torturing people changed movie-to-movie.

Now, Smurfking420 wants to see that happen again, noting, "Ready for some random plot twists that retcon the previous nine movies." A Saw movie wouldn't be the same without necessarily retconning the narrative. But, at the same time, it would be refreshing to get a grounded horror movie with a well-told story, but the series is way past that point now.

The Premise Sounds Great

Tobin Bell as Jigsaw

Spiral set up a sequel in many ways, but it seems like that isn't the direction the series is heading in. Though very little has been revealed about the movie, this user is still excited about the 10th movie's premise. The Redditor explains, "It's set between Saw 1 and 2, following Tobin Bell's Jigsaw story and presumably only him, shot in Mexico and probably set there. I like the sound of it."

While there hasn't been any news on the movie being set in Mexico, it has been heavily rumored for months now that Tobin Bell will return as everyone's favorite psychotic serial killer, John Kramer. The character has been absent since 2017's Jigsaw, he has always been the heart of the franchise, and his absence in Spiral is part of why that movie failed, so it'll be great to see him back in the role.

It Should Ignore Spiral

Chris Rock in Spiral From the Book of Saw

While it seems like Lionsgate may ignore a lot of what happened in Spiral, Redditor 500DaysofNight is adamant about how the upcoming sequel should separate itself entirely from the 2021 movie. The Redditor comments, "As long as it has NOTHING to do with Spiral, I'm all for it."

In many ways, the 2021 horror was better than the original Saw series, as there was a perfect balance between traps and story. It brought the franchise back to its thriller roots, but unfortunately, it didn't exactly stick the landing. However, that doesn't mean that the upcoming sequel should ignore the movie completely, and a sequel to Spiral has the potential to be great.

Chris Rock Should Return

One of the few redeeming factors about Spiral was Chris Rock, who had way more charisma than any other actor in the franchise, and surprisingly, he pulled off the more dramatic sequences. xfan09 thinks that the comedian should return to the franchise, noting, "If it doesn’t feature Chris Rock yelling like a maniac I’m not interested."

Rock might have overdone it a little with the screaming, but it's exactly the reaction anybody else would realistically have in the situation, and his character Zeke Banks is the best Saw protagonist. And the actor is clearly passionate about the franchise, as the movie was his idea in the first place (via Deadline).

The Victims Should Be Politicians

Cary Elwes in Saw

Redditor MadamePeace has an interesting idea for the sequel, pitching, "It needs to be all s****y politicians. I need some catharsis." It's surprising that the Saw franchise hasn't gone down the political route yet considering that America continues to become more divided over its political leanings. A Saw movie where politicians are the victims doesn't have to lean one way or the other, and it would be an interesting way to make the stale series relevant again.

Pulling drug addicts and alcoholics off the street and throwing them into traps hasn't aged all that well, so this idea could work perfectly. The Batman did it tastefully and cleverly, as the Riddler went after fictional political characters in the Gotham world, and Saw 10 could take a page out of the superhero movie's book.

The Franchise's Best Director Is Returning

Notjustanothernerd is excited about the director, as it was announced that Kevin Greutert will return to the franchise. The Redditor explains, "I'm more excited about Kevin returning to direct. He was an editor on the first 5 and directed #6 (one of my favorite Saw movies)."

The filmmaker also directed Saw VII, and though that's largely considered the worst, nobody knows the lore of the franchise better than Greutert, as he even edited the ones that he didn't direct. And the Reddit user is not alone in enjoying Saw VI, as that's a common favorite outside the original movie amongst fans. So, though Greutert doesn't have a perfect report card, Saw 10 is still in the safest hands possible.

The Franchise Should End

Billy, The Jigsaw Killer - Saw

While Saw fans still have optimism that the movie could be great despite being disappointed so many times, SillyTimesAhead has lost all hope entirely. The Redditor simply thinks there shouldn't be a tenth movie and that it should end, noting, "Been a massive Saw fan since the first one came out when I was 10, but there’s no new ground to be covered. I know IP is king, but my god just let it go."

In fairness, given that the franchise has been on its last legs for a while and that Spiral was a financial failure, making just $40 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo), surely Lionsgate wouldn't be so quick to greenlight another one unless the idea was fantastic. But, then again, the studio has done it before.
