Saved by the Bell season 2 saw Aisha (Alycia Pascual-Peña) come out as bisexual and embark on a new relationship, but there were hints to the reveal in season 1. From the moment she debuted among the cast of Saved by the Bell, Aisha was attracted to football teammate Jamie Spano (Belmont Cameli). Feeling similarly, the pair eventually became more than friends. Unfortunately, when it looked like Aisha might have to leave Bayside and Jamie declared his love before she was sure of her feelings, they decided to break up. Though Aisha came to regret it and sought to rectify the mistake, Jamie had moved on to Lexi (Josie Totah).

As a result, viewers widely anticipated a love triangle would unfold when Saved by the Bell Season 2 rolled around. For a time, it seemed as though things were headed in that direction - with Lexi and Aisha ultimately fighting in Saved by the Bell season 2, episode 3, “1-900-Crushed.” However, it rapidly came to light that Aisha was genuinely over Jamie and more upset she’d seemingly lost Lexi as a friend. After Lexi confessed she’d been withdrawing out of insecurity, they reaffirmed their friendship. Through Lexi, Aisha eventually met Chloe (Ariela Barer), the head of Bayside’s LGBTQ+ society, and a mutual crush quickly formed.

While it may have come as a surprise to some Saved by the Bell viewers, Aisha told Lexi that she’d had several same-sex crushes. She had just never called herself bi out loud and never crushed on anybody she actually knew. One of her listed crushes was professional basketball player Sue Bird. It was then that it became clear that there had been hints of Aisha’s bisexuality ahead of Saved by the Bell season 2. After Daisy had stated that all professional basketball players cheat, Aisha defensively countered that Sue Bird wouldn’t and spoke fondly about the athlete’s relationship with soccer player Megan Rapinoe. Though it could've been construed at the time that it was sports-related hero-worship, Saved by the Bell season 2 made clear it had always been a more traditional crush.

Chloe and Aisha officially became a couple after the charity dance-a-thon. Chloe was then seen prominently cheering Aisha on during the latter’s first wrestling contest before they celebrated Aisha’s victory with their first public kiss. Some viewers will no doubt be disappointed that more didn’t come of Jamie and Aisha leading up to the ending of Saved by the Bell season 2. In truth, however, it made a lot more sense to Aisha’s character that she wasn’t still pining after a year. Equally, Jamie is far too nice and honest to have remained with Lexi if he wasn’t committed 100% to their relationship. Though a love triangle can be fun in such shows, the Saved by the Bell writers clearly didn’t feel the need to needlessly milk extra drama out of proceedings. Instead, the show solidified Lexi and Jamie’s love, gave Aisha a new love interest, and kept the overall core group dynamic completely free of unnecessary, ongoing tension.

By having Aisha start to date Chloe, the show was also able to continue its already considerable trend of landmark representation. Saved by the Bell has already been a beacon on that front, with Aisha herself being central to that in terms of characterization and storylines. The Joss Whedon-insulting Saved by the Bell season 2 also had Aisha deal with a hostile and racist Spanish teacher. Therefore, being equally progressive in its romantic stories made total sense and has already been warmly received by audiences on social media. There is, of course, no way of knowing where things will go next in Saved by the Bell season 3.  Whatever the case, for the time being, however, Chloe and Aisha join the cisgendered Jamie and Lexi (who’s trans) in adorably depicting a thoroughly modern relationship.
