A magician, a barbarian, a knight and a demon's thrall join forces in order to steal a powerful talisman from a dragon’s lair. Sound familiar? In what must be considered their most Dungeons & Dragons adventure to date, a team of Savage Avengers comprised of Magik, Conan, the Black Knight and Juggernaut must steal the first Eye of Agamotto from an Asgardian dragon.

According to Marvel's December solicitation for Savage Avengers #16, this unlikely team will face a “knock-down, drag-out fight” as they do battle with the Asgardian Dragon known as Sadurang, who guards the first Eye of Agamotto amongst the hoarded treasure in his cave in the Snowstone Mountains of Jotunheim. But wait… doesn’t Doctor Strange hold the Eye of Agamotto? Nope, that’s the Second Eye, which he recently lost. Confused? Read on for the lowdown.

About a million years ago, Agamotto was the Sorcerer Supreme of Earth. At some point he retired from this role and moved on to become one of the Vishanti, a trio of supernatural, god-like entities (Agamotto, Hoggoth and Oshtur) who act as advocates for the Sorcerer Supreme. Agamotto created not just one but three "eyes"; the First Eye of Power, the Second Eye of Truth, and the Third Eye of Prescience. The dragon Sadurang possesses the First Eye, Doctor Strange usually possesses the Second Eye (which he says is currently “lost to time”), and the Third Eye had been in the possession of the evil sorcerer Kulan Gath until being stolen by Conan and given to Doctor Strange for safe-keeping. In recent issues of the series, the Savage Avengers have been going up against Kulan Gath, who seeks to possess all three Eyes of Agamotto, enabling him to assume the power of the demon Shuma-Gorath and become invincible. The story synopsis reads:

LET’S GO TO LIMBO! Magik joins Conan with guest Avenger the Black Knight and... the Juggernaut. An Asgardian dragon with the second eye of Agamotto doesn’t stand a chance. Or maybe he does. Either way, the Sweet Sixteenth of this comic is going to be a knock-down, drag-out fight that will punch you upside the head. Fair warning.

First appearing in Tony Stark: Iron Man #12 (June 2019), Sadurang is an Asgardian dragon and a powerful sorcerer who once studied under Doctor Strange’s arch nemesis, the dread Dormammu. With the ability to transform from a fire-breathing dragon into a super-durable human form, will Sadurang prove to be too powerful for the quartet of savage anti-heroes or will the team succeed in stealing the first Eye of Agamotto?
