Sarah Paulson is set to star in the upcoming horror thriller Dust, which will stream on Hulu. In the works at Searchlight Pictures, the new movie focuses on a mother who is trapped by increasingly dangerous dust storms in 1930s Oklahoma. Haunted by her past and confronted by a threatening presence, she must resort to extreme measures to keep her family safe. Karrie Crouse (Westworld) penned the script for the project, which she will co-direct alongside Will Joines.

According to Variety, Searchlight has now confirmed that Paulson will play the starring role in Dust. The Emmy Award winner takes over from The Crown actress Claire Foy, who was originally announced to star back in 2020 but was forced to step aside due to conflicting schedules. Filming on Dust is set to begin in August with plans for the movie to debut on Hulu in the U.S. Additional release information has yet to be revealed.

While some may be disappointed Foy had to depart the project, Paulson's extensive work in the horror genre makes her a good fit for Dust. Some of Paulson’s previous credits include the acclaimed FX anthology series American Horror Story, Netflix’s Ratched, and the 2020 psychological thriller Run. In addition to Dust, her upcoming work includes an adaptation of Bruce Norris’ beloved play, Clybourne Park, and a role in the show Untamed, which is based on Glennon Doyle’s memoir. It's clear Paulson is in the midst of a busy year, which will now add another horror project to her extensive filmography.
