Now that The Santa Clauses season 2 has been confirmed, audiences might finally have the chance for their burning questions about season 1 to be answered. Here are all the biggest questions left unanswered at the end of The Santa Clauses season 1.

What Happens To Simon And Grace After The Santa Clauses Season 1

Simon and Grace in his office in The Santa Clauses

When Scott Calvin decides to retire as Santa Claus in The Santa Clauses season 1, he seeks a replacement. Scott eventually chooses Simon Choski, as his real-life job as a game developer and his daughter, Grace’s love for Christmas combined seem to make him perfectly suited to life as the jolly old elf. When Simon begins to abuse his power as Santa, Scott comes in to restore the Christmas spirit and resume the mantle of Santa Claus. Though Simon willingly gives up being Santa Claus, it is not known what happens to him and Grace afterward.

Though it is known that Simon and Grace return to the real world at the end of season 1, their plans after leaving the North Pole are not elaborated on. Presumably, Simon returned to his regular work at EverythingNow and perhaps to being a more active father to Grace, but since Edie only said she sent them home, viewers can’t be completely sure what happens to the Choskis. Hopefully, season 2 of The Santa Clauses sees the Choskis return and explores what they have been up to since season 1.

What Do Cal And Sandra’s Powers Mean For The Future In The Santa Clauses

cal-the-santa-clauses

The Santa Clauses season 1 establishes that Cal and Sandra have magical powers akin to Scott’s, which could have major ramifications. In The Santa Clauses season 1, episode 5, "17" says that children born at the North Pole will gain some of the magic of Christmas, which explains why Cal and Sandra have exhibited powers. Cal’s magic seems to be similar to that of his father while Sandra is able to form special connections with animals, which allows them to save Christmas with the help of their parents. Cal and Sandra’s powers will undoubtedly have importance in season 2, but it is unclear what they will mean for the future.

The finale of The Santa Clauses season 1 sees the two younger Calvin children use their magical powers to help Scott deliver presents as Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, though it's unclear if this will be the new normal. Cal even goes down the chimney to deliver presents at one house, which, combined with the similarity of his powers to his father’s means he might be poised to be the next Santa. The impact of Cal and Sandra’s powers on life and work at the North Pole and the extent of their magic definitely need to be explored more in The Santa Clauses season 2.

What Happens To The Calvin Family’s Lives In The Real World

When Scott Calvin temporarily retires as Santa in season 1 of The Santa Clauses, he and his family move from the North Pole to the city of Chicago. Carol, Cal, and Sandra all seemingly flourish, with Carol returning to working in education while the kids adjust to life in America and make friends at school. The only person who seems to have difficulty adjusting to life in Chicago is Scott, who realizes that what he does best is serving as Santa Claus. Returning to the North Pole is what is best for Scott in the end, but what does his becoming Santa Claus again mean for the other three Calvins?

Their new lives are integral to their character development. Carol had been suffering from an identity crisis, but in the Santa Clauses show she finds fulfillment with work while Cal gets a girlfriend and Sandra makes friends for the first time. Though Scott returns to being Santa, it's unclear what this will mean for the other family members’ lives in the real world. Will they give up life in Chicago, or will they attempt to balance that with the demands of life at the North Pole? What happens to the rest of the Calvins next could be an interesting source of tension that should definitely be explored in season 2.

How Does The Yule-verse Work In The Santa Clauses

the-yuleverse-the-santa-clauses

One of the most interesting developments to the lore of the Santa Clause franchise is the introduction of the Yule-verse in The Santa Clauses season 1, episode 5. the elf Bernard, who had been missing since the movie sequel The Santa Clause 2, visits Scott and takes him to the Yule-verse to convince him that he is meant to be Santa Claus. Here, the two encounter past Santa Clauses —with an appearance from Krampus as well. Though the Yule-verse is incredibly important to the course of season 1, virtually no time is spent explaining what the Yule-verse is or how it works.

What the Yule-verse is and its function are a huge unanswered question from season 1 of The Santa Clauses. It is clearly a place where past Santas go to dwell, but does that make it an afterlife of sorts? Or, since Bernard and "17" show Scott scenes from both the Great Depression and his own childhood, is the Yule-verse more of a time machine? Or is it some sort of multiverse? Whatever the Yule-verse actually is and how it fits the Santa Clause's rules, it is a concept that definitely warrants further explanation and exploration in season 2 of The Santa Clauses.

Will Scott Calvin Ever Retire For Real In The Santa Clauses

Scott/Santa sitting at a desk on The Santa Clauses

Before The Santa Clauses season 1, the only established ways to cease being Santa Claus were either to wish that one had never been Santa at all, as seen in The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, or to die as "17" did when Scott Calvin became Santa in the original The Santa Clause. The Santa Clauses presents the option for a Santa Claus to retire, which Scott does briefly. Though Scott comes out of retirement, the option is now out in the open for consideration at any point.

Scott has a change of heart and decides he's still supposed to fill the role, but season 1 of Disney's Santa Clauses show makes audiences consider him ending his career as Santa. After his revelation that being Santa is what he is best at, it seems unlikely Scott will retire any time soon, but the show also makes it clear he can’t be Santa forever. It is left unclear whether Scott will remain Santa as long as possible or if he will retire for good eventually, and the topic of his future departure from the role is definitely a topic that should be revisited in The Santa Clauses season 2.
