Netflix has released a brand new The Sandman trailer, revealing a first look at the highly-anticipated series' Johanna Constantine and Corinthian. As superhero and comic book properties have conquered the big and small screens through the Marvel and DC franchises, one property that has waited a long time to make the jump from the page is Neil Gaiman's The Sandman. For several years, a Sandman feature film was in the works by David S. Goyer, but the project was stuck in development limbo. Now, instead of a film adaptation, Netflix is bringing The Sandman to life as a new live-action original series, with Gaiman attached as a co-executive producer.

The Sandman centers on the journeys of the Endless, a family that represents powerful, key concepts of the universe. From aspects such as Death, Desire, Destiny, and Despair, The Sandman explores how Morpheus, a.k.a. Dream, was imprisoned for over 100 years before re-emerging in modern times. After being released, Dream, played by Tom Sturridge, will embark on a mission to restore the realm of The Dreaming while reuniting with his powerful family. The Sandman, which consists of 12 episodes, will arrive on Netflix this year, introducing Gaiman's critically-acclaimed graphic novels to a mainstream audience.

As Netflix Geeked Week is currently taking place, the streamer has revealed new trailers and first-looks for several new shows, including Gaiman's Sandman. While the wait has been long, Netflix has finally released a new Sandman trailer, giving a deeper look at Gaiman's world in live-action. The Sandman trailer follows Morpheus after breaking out of his prison, while also providing a first glimpse at the adaptation's Johanna Constantine and Corinthian. Watch the trailer below:

The new trailer gives the best look yet at Sturridge's Dream powers, which are on full display in this footage. However, more of Gaiman's beloved creations are finally getting some screen time, too. Doctor Who alum Jenna Coleman will be pulling double duty in the series by portraying two members of Sandman's Constantine family. With both iterations being named Johanna, one is from the 18th century, while her great-great-great-granddaughter is from the present time. Another major player introduced in the new Sandman trailer is Logan's Boyd Holbrook as The Corinthian, a nightmare who managed to escape The Dreaming. Other iconic Sandman characters in the Netflix series include Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, Mason Alexander Park as Desire, and David Thewlis as Doctor Destiny.

While the wait for Netflix's live-action Sandman debut has been long, this new trailer makes it clear that the anticipation will be paid off. From the clip's jaw-dropping visuals, to the scope of Dream's powers, the new Sandman trailer provides just a taste of Gaiman's epic universe, drawing in newcomers while also bringing a world familiar to fans of the creator's work to life. Given how rich The Sandman franchise is, Netflix could be looking at one of its next big hits, with the potential to go on for several seasons. With less than three months before The Sandman drops on August 5, the series will soon marks its place in the sprawling comic book TV landscape.
