Neil Gaiman has given an update for new The Sandman episode scripts. Based on the comic series of the same name written by Gaiman, The Sandman was adapted into a television series exclusively for Netflix, and premiered on the streaming service in August. The fantasy series would go on to top Netflix's charts for several weeks, and even briefly dethroned Stranger Things season 4 as Netflix's most-popular show from August 8-14. Though The Sandman received mass critical acclaim, and has since become beloved by fans, it was only recently revealed in November that the show was renewed for new episodes. While the plot of upcoming episodes hasn't been revealed yet, as the scripts are still being written, both Gaiman and The Sandman cast members have teased possible future narratives. Gaiman has repeatedly shared his excitement to bring the youngest member of the Endless, Delirium, into the series, saying he's looking forward to casting the role. Boyd Holbrook (The Corinthian) and Jenna Coleman (Johanna Constantine) have also teased the possible returns of their much-loved characters. Coleman even went so far as to hint that Constantine might be getting her own Sandman spinoff series in the future, an idea Gaiman has also proven open to, though no official plans have been confirmed on either of their parts, or Netflix's.

It was also recently teased that, like Stranger Things season 4 being split into two parts, this next chapter of The Sandman could receive the same treatment. Peter Friedlander, Netflix's head of U.S. and Canada scripted series, has said that "everything is on the table when it comes to ‘Sandman," and that includes the show's format. Netflix has also said that the show's renewal won't be considered a season 2, but simply a new slate of episodes.

With fans around the world leading such a big push for The Sandman's renewal, there's more excitement than ever over the series getting new episodes. There is currently speculation that filming for the new episodes may begin in early 2023, but with the scripts not yet finished, it may still be some time before new Sandman content is released. Many longtime fans of the comics attribute the success of the show to Gaiman's continuous involvement, and with the writer announcing that he has a large hand in writing the new episode scripts, this next chapter will no doubt continue The Sandman's reign on Netflix.
