An image from The Sandman show reveals a new look at Lucifer's costume. Gwendoline Christie plays the ruler of Hell in Netflix's upcoming adaptation of Neil Gaiman's DC Comics series. The British actress first rose to fame for her role as Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones (for which she received an Emmy nod in 2019) and is also well-known for portraying the First Order stormtrooper Captain Phasma in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and briefly in The Last Jedi.

There have been numerous attempts to adapt The Sandman to the screen since 1991, including a feature film with Joseph Gordon-Levitt starring and directing, who left the project over creative differences in 2016. Producers Gaiman and David S. Goyer then took the project to Netflix, which signed a deal to produce the series in 2019. Two-time Tony nominee Tom Sturridge leads The Sandman cast as Morpheus, a.k.a Dream, alongside Christie as Lucifer and Vivienne Acheampong, Boyd Holbrook, Charles Dance, Asim Chaudhry, and Sanjeev Bhaskar in supporting roles. Though The Sandman does not yet have a release date for 2022, Netflix has recently been ramping up its promotional campaign with various looks at the fantasy series.

Now, Netflix has unveiled a new image from The Sandman show revealing another look at Lucifer. Released via the Netflix show's official Twitter account, the photo is captioned "Have you come to join forces?" and shows Gwendoline Christie in costume as the show's ruler of Hell. Check out the new look at Lucifer below:

The image was released soon after the first footage of Gwendoline Christie's Lucifer was revealed in Netflix's Geeked Week 2022 trailer, where she can be seen sporting silky white robes with black wings. This latest look now shows Lucifer in all-black, shiny leather attire. The first look at Christie's Lucifer debuted during last year's DC FanDome event, revealing the character's curly blonde hair and a close-up of their bat-like wings.

All these looks have revealed a Lucifer consistent with the character's original appearance in the comics, mainly the golden locks and black wings, far removed from the depiction seen in the 2016 Lucifer television series starring Tom Ellis. Gaiman and company considered having Ellis return as Lucifer, but since his version would have required too much reworking for The Sandman, they ultimately opted for a more faithful interpretation from the comics. Expect more looks at Christie's comics-accurate Lucifer and possibly a release date for The Sandman to be unveiled during Netflix's virtual Geeked Week event next month.
