On the heels of being picked up for more chapters, Neil Gaiman teases that The Sandman's new episodes could feature Delirium. Based on Gaiman's comics of the same name, the fantasy drama series centers on Tom Sturridge's titular character as he escapes a century-long confinement and embarks on a journey to restore his Kingdom of the Dreaming and put a stop to a rogue nightmare wreaking havoc on the living. Developed by Gaiman, David S. Goyer and Allan Heinberg, The Sandman has scored widespread acclaim from critics and audiences alike for its faithfulness to the comics, the performances from its cast, and its ambitious worldbuilding and production values.

One fan recently took to Tumblr to ask Neil Gaiman for any casting updates on The Sandman's new episodes following the show's renewal announcement. Though debunking such, as the order was only just confirmed, he did tease his excitement to cast Delirium for the Netflix series, potentially teasing their arrival in the near future. Delirium's Sandman History Explained

First introduced in the fourth collection of the comics, The Sandman: Season of Mists, Delirium is the youngest of the seven Endless beings, and the rarest in her ability to frequently change her form simply based on her emotions, with her emerald green and pale blue eyes the only permanent characteristics. Interestingly, she originally existed as the personification of Delight, but eventually transitioned into her Delirium persona, for reasons of which are unknown to her older brother Destiny, with whom she is generally considered to be closer to. Delirium also seems to possess more prophetic knowledge than her siblings, only for her scatterbrained mind to frequently lead to much of what she has to share either coming too late or nearly incoherent.

Despite being one of the seven Endless, Delirium's relationship with Dream was a very tentative one for much of The Sandman comics, with the younger sibling being scared of Morpheus, and largely avoided interacting with him. This would ultimately change during The Sandman: Brief Lives, in which the titular character helped Delirium search for Destruction after he abandoned his realm, with the two visiting a variety of his acquaintances in the hopes of finding their sibling. Dream would be forced to confront his estranged son during said journey, and ultimately strike a bargain with him to let him die, thus violating a rule that the Endless may not shed the blood of family.

With Gaiman seemingly teasing Delirium's involvement in The Sandman's new episodes, it seems likely that the show will be adapting the events of Season of Mists. Gaiman previously teased that the future of the show could see a Lucifer and Dream rematch, a pivotal plot point in the comic collection that would lead to the ruler of Hell departing their post and heading to Earth, thus spawning the spin-off comic book series that inspired the other hit Netflix show. Given Gaiman has remained very involved with both the show's development, and keeping audiences in the know on updates for its future, one can hope that word of Delirium's casting, as well as other major stars, is right around the corner for The Sandman's new episodes.
