Warning: SPOILERS for Netflix's The Sandman And The Sandman Comics

Lyta Hall's (Razane Jammal) baby doesn't have a name in The Sandman season 1 but this child of the Dreaming - and his name - will have a massive impact on The Sandman going forward. Netflix's The Sandman adapts the first two collected volumes of Neil Gaiman's beloved DC Comics graphic novels, Preludes and Nocturnes and The Doll's House. Lyta Hall doesn't debut until the second half of The Sandman season 1 covers The Doll's House storyline, which ends with Dream (Tom Sturridge) claiming Lyta's baby "is mine."

In The Sandman season 1, Lyta Hall is the closest friend of Rose Walker (Vanesu Samunyai) and accompanies her to the UK to meet her great-great-grandmother, Unity Kincaid (Sandra James-Young).  But Lyta also has a secret: she communicates with her dead husband, Hector Hall (Lloyd Everett), who begins inviting her to stay with him in the Dreaming. Incredibly, Lyta becomes pregnant, and not just in dreams but in the waking world, as well. Lyta's miracle child grows incredibly fast and she gives birth in just a matter of days. Morpheus intervenes when he learns of Lyta and Hector through Rose, who is a Dream Vortex. Dream of the Endless sends Hector, who is a ghost hiding in the Dreaming, back to the Sunless Lands but he also lays claim to Lyta's baby because he is a child who was conceived and gestated in the Dreaming, which makes him part of Dream himself.

Lyta chooses not to name her baby at the end of The Sandman season 1. She rejects the idea of naming the infant after his father and the name of the child is left an open question. But this is important because it is Dream who is destined to give Lyta's baby his name. The child is a crucial part of The Sandman's mythology going forward, and he is bonded to Dream in the same way Rose and Jed Walker are because they are also children of The Endless, Dream's immortal family. Rose and Jed are the great-great-grandchildren of Unity Kincaid, who was impregnated by Desire (Mason Alexander Park) when she was asleep for decades thanks to the sleeping sickness caused by Dream's imprisonment. Lyta's baby is, similarly, a part of the Dreaming.

What's The Name of Lyta's Baby In The Sandman?

The Sandman Lyta Hall

The Sandman season 2 is expected to adapt the next two volumes of Neil Gaiman's collections: Dream Country and The Season of Mists. It's in the latter storyline that Lyta Hall's baby gets his name: Dream names him Daniel. The child's name beginning with the letter "D" is a clue to his future, and it links Daniel to the rest of the Endless whose names all start with "D": Destiny, Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste), Dream, Destruction (also known as "The Prodigal"), Desire, Despair (Donna Preston), and Delirium. Dream gives Daniel his name in The Season of Mists during his preparations to descend into Hell in order to force Lucifer Morningstar (Gwendoline Christie) to release his former lover, Nada, from her imprisonment. Dream names Daniel because he fears he won't return from Hell, and Daniel is a crucial seed planted towards the future of The Sandman.

Longtime readers of The Sandman comics know what Dream and Daniel's ultimate fates are. Daniel is meant to become the next aspect of Dream of the Endless after Morpheus meets his end, and Daniel is a markedly different-looking Dream altogether: almost entirely pure white instead of the darkness Morpheus embraces. However, that's a tale for many seasons of The Sandman from now. At the moment, Lyta Hall's child is still just a newborn waiting for Dream of the Endless to give him his name.
