Several Samsung Smart TVs allow wireless viewing of iPhone photos, videos and music. However, not all Samsung televisions have this capability and there are minimum requirements for the iPhone as well. Identifying which TVs will work and making sure the iPhone is compatible will help to make sure there are no issues with connecting the two.

Samsung and Apple compete with one another over smartphones, tablets and watches, but when it comes to televisions, they have the ability to partner up and help each other to make a better experience for the user. Apple's AirPlay 2 is a video streaming protocol that allows encrypted video to be sent from an iPhone, iPad or Mac computer to an external monitor for viewing. The system is quick and easy while maintaining good privacy. Various manufacturers make compatible televisions, including Samsung.

In order to view iPhone or iPad videos on a Samsung Smart TV, it needs to be a somewhat newer model. If the television being used is older than 2018, it is already not compatible. In addition, some televisions made after 2018 also do not support AirPlay 2. Samsung notes on its website that the 2020 Crystal UHD TV, as well as the 8K, Frame, Serif and 4K QLED TVs made in 2019 and 2020 will work just fine. The 2018 and 2019 4K QLED and 4K UHD TVs allow AirPlay 2 streaming also. The 2018 Frame TV and Smart Full HDTV N5300 round out the list. It's quite a long list, but not an all-inclusive one.

Troubleshooting AirPlay On Samsung TVs

The Apple device also needs to have a somewhat recent version of the operating system. For iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, that means iOS 11.4 or later. Mac computers should be running macOS Catalina or have iTunes 12.8 installed. A little known fact is that a Windows PC with iTunes 12.8 or later can also stream via AirPlay 2. Of course, Apple TV can stream using AirPlay 2 also, and will work with a compatible Samsung TV. An Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD with tvOS 11.4 or later will also work.

For anyone with a compatible TV that experiences a problem, check if there is an operating system update available for the Apple device that is being used for streaming, as Apple typically supports older iPhone and iPad models for quite a long time. Also, note that AirPlay 2 works via Wi-Fi so the Samsung TV must be connected to the internet and to the same Wi-Fi network as the Apple device that is attempting to stream photos or video.
