Samsung might be working on a virtual assistant replacement for Bixby, called Sam. Most smartphones these days do come with a virtual assistant on board, although some have proven more useful, and by association, popular than others. However, Samsung’s Sam looks set to appeal to users in more of a visual way. That is, if Sam is indeed real and coming to the company's line of Galaxy smartphones soon.

Arguably, the two most popular virtual assistants are Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. However, Apple’s Siri also has its place, thanks to the large number of devices it is compatible with and accessible on. While Samsung is also working towards a more cohesive ecosystem to support its large number of devices, its Bixby virtual assistant has yet to prove as appealing to users as Siri, Alexa, and Google’s Assistant.

Images recently shared by Lou and others on social media show what is currently being referred to as Sam. Since the images surfaced, there has been some debate as to whether they are official Samsung renders or ones that were produced as a concept by a third-party. However, SinisterSh0t on Twitter spotted a cached version of a now-deleted Lightfarm Studios webpage which seemed to suggest the images of the Sam virtual assistant were created in partnership with a marketing agency owned by Samsung Group. The takeaway suggestion being that, to some degree, Sam is real.

What Is Sam & When Is Sam Arriving?

The captured image of the webpage does indicate that Sam is “Samsung’s virtual assistant” and points to the new look as one that’s designed to offer a modern, exciting and three-dimensional take on a virtual assistant. However, a number of questions still remain. To begin with, it remains to be seen whether the images shared online are representative of a final design or simply one of many concepts currently being considered. Not to mention, it also remains to be seen whether Sam is strictly for marketing purposes or whether the overall goal is to include the virtual assistant on Samsung devices.

What is clear, however, is that Sam is proving to be somewhat of a hit on social media so far, with many users having already taken to various platforms, including Twitter, to comment on their approval of the new look and design. For now, those hoping Sam is Samsung’s new virtual assistant will need to wait on firm confirmation from the company, as well as an explanation on whether Sam is actually designed to be a full voice and virtual assistant replacement for Bixby.
