Samsung will continue to offer the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic even though the company has now announced two new smartwatches in the form of the Galaxy Watch 5 and the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Generally speaking, companies tend to discontinue older models once newer ones become available, and Samsung is no different. However, it has decided to make an exception with last year’s Classic model, and with good reason.

During Samsung’s August Unpacked 2022 event, the company formerly announced the Galaxy Watch 5 and the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro alongside new foldable phones and earbuds. Both of the new smartwatches are already available to pre-order and are due to hit online and physical store shelves later this month, with the price starting at $279 and $449, respectively. For those that want the best smartwatch experience Samsung has to offer, these two models are going to be the ones to consider.

However, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic will remain available to buy alongside the two newer models. Even though Samsung is now releasing two next-gen versions, neither one actually replaces the Classic, which is why Samsung has opted to keep it alive. Instead, the Galaxy Watch 5 is an upgraded version of the standard Galaxy Watch 4, and the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is largely purpose-designed for those wanting a more rugged build and longer battery life than what the standard Galaxy Watch 5 has to offer. It is not a classic version of the standard model, but an outdoor version.

A (Watch 4) Classic For The Modern Ages

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic

Unlike the Galaxy Watch 4, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is designed to be a smartwatch that more closely resembles a traditional timepiece. For example, it’s made from stainless steel instead of aluminium, it is slightly heavier than the standard version, comes in two larger sizes, and still houses a rotating bezel. The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is essentially a continuation of the original Galaxy Watch models, while the standard Galaxy Watch 4 is the evolution of Samsung's Galaxy Watch Active line.

With the newer Galaxy Watch 5 continuing to build on the Galaxy Watch Active/Watch 4 features and design, and the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro building on the standard Galaxy Watch 5, there is currently no replacement for the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. This is largely why Samsung is continuing to keep the model available - for those that want more of a classic Galaxy Watch look and feel in 2022.
