Samsung is merely a few weeks away from the debuts of Galaxy S22 series smartphones, but as per a fresh leak, the upcoming vanilla flagship will carry the same price tag as its predecessor. Over the past few months, Samsung’s trio of upcoming camera-centric flagships has been leaked extensively, with everything from design renders to key specs making their way online. Talkin about aesthetics, the vanilla Galaxy S22 and its Plus sibling appear to look almost the same as their respective predecessors.

However, a handful of fresh leaks claim to show a Galaxy S22 Ultra that looks a lot like the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, save for the weird camera lens array. The similarity might have something to do with the fact that Samsung has pulled the plugs on its Note series, at least for the next year. And to make sure that diehard Galaxy Note fans are not left out, Samsung has even drilled a slot alongside the left edge of Galaxy S22 Ultra to park the S Pen stylus. However, it appears that Samsung won’t burden buyers with the customary generation-over-generation price bump.

SamMobile cites its own sources and claims that the Galaxy S22 will be carrying the same price tag as its predecessor. The Galaxy S22 is said to start at $799 in the US market, the same as Galaxy S21. It won’t be surprising to see Samsung giving the same treatment to the Galaxy S22+ and its Ultra version as well. After all, the Galaxy S21 Ultra made its market debut at $1,199, a solid $200 less than the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Samsung is yet to reveal the date of its next Unpacked event, but rumors suggest it will be happening in February. So far, leaks have painted the picture of a solid Android flagship with some key upgrades. And if Samsung gets the pricing right, the Galaxy S22 series can make a real splash.

Incentivized Pricing To One-Up The Competition

Vanilla Galaxy S21

The Galaxy S22 series will most likely come in two flavors — one with Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC and the other armed with its next Exynos chipset set to arrive with the highly anticipated AMD GPU upgrade. In the camera department, the Galaxy S22 and its Plus version will reportedly offer a 50-megapixel main snapper, a 12-megapixel lens for ultrawide photography, and a 10-megapixel telephoto zoom camera. The Galaxy S22 Ultra will take things a notch higher with a 108-megapixel main shooter. Samsung is also reportedly throwing 45W fast charging into the mix. Overall, the Galaxy S22 series is shaping up to be yet another impressive iterative upgrade.

But Samsung has to get the pricing right, more so in 2022 than ever. And that’s because Apple is virtually hogging the entire price bracket from $699 and all the way to the $1,000+ category with four solid phones targeting almost every core demographic of flagship phone buyers. Google has also made a stunning return to form with the Pixel 6 series. While the Pixel 6 Pro is a solid phone for its $899 asking price, the standard Pixel 6 is simply a terrific package for just $599. There have been a few hiccups, but the new Pixels are simply some of the best Android phones one can buy at their respective asking price. And that means Samsung really has to offer something special in terms of both raw hardware as well as attractive pricing to ship a few million units without having to resort to aggressive discounts.
