Samsung recently released a Fan Edition of the Galaxy S20, featuring many of the specs that a Galaxy phone user might look for when purchasing a Galaxy S20 phone. From a range of colors, to a 4500 mAh battery, here’s how the Galaxy S20 FE compares to the standard Galaxy S20, which was released earlier this year and is priced at $999.99, or $549.99 with a trade-in.

Samsung revealed the Galaxy S20 FE several months after launching the Galaxy S20 in February. According to Samsung, the driving force behind the Fan Edition was the customers, with the phone packing all the innovations that fans made clear they wanted the most. The Galaxy S20 Fan Edition and the Galaxy S20 are both part of the Galaxy S20 line, which also includes the Galaxy S20 Plus and Galaxy S20 Ultra. Each phone in the Galaxy S20 family supports 5G and works with most major carriers, including Verizon and AT&T.

The Galaxy S20 FE and the Galaxy S20 feature Space Zoom -- allowing users to zoom in up to 30x while using the camera -- and Night Mode which utilizes a special AI to draw in light from the user's surroundings, meaning they don’t have to use the flash at night or in a darkened area in order to get a good picture. Both phones also feature Single Take, which lets the user take multiple photos and videos for up to 10 seconds. Likewise, they also both feature an Infinity-O display, along with a 120Hz refresh rate, resulting in a smoother experience when scrolling through Facebook or the photo gallery. Last, but not least, both phones are also water-resistant, with each phone able to withstand being submerged in up to 1.5 meters.

Comparing The Galaxy S20 FE & The Galaxy S20

All the Galaxy S20 FE color options

Where the Galaxy S20 FE comes in six shades, including Cloud Navy, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Mint, Cloud Red and Cloud White, the Galaxy S20 comes in fewer colors, which are listed on Samsung’s website as Cosmic Gray, Cloud Blue and Cloud Pink. In terms of battery capacity, the Galaxy S20 FE boasts a 4500 mAh battery, while the Galaxy S20 has a typical battery capacity of 4000 mAh. The front camera on the Fan Edition is 32 megapixels, and this compares to the 10-megapixel camera included with the standard Galaxy S20. The size of the phones also differ, with the Fan Edition boasting a larger screen at 6.5 inches, compared to the Galaxy S20's 6.2-inch screen.

Ultimately, anyone trying to decide between the Galaxy S20 FE and the Galaxy S20 should consider what they’re looking to get from a phone. The battery capacity for the Galaxy S20 FE means it boasts a longer battery life than the Galaxy S20, which can be important if the customer is always on their phone, or using it for tasks that use up a lot of battery life, like gaming or watching YouTube videos. It’s also nice that the FE has a fairly reasonable price tag, making it a good option for college students or working professionals looking for a phone that can enable them to stay in contact with coworkers without straining their bank account. However, the Galaxy S20 would be the better option for people who require a more powerful phone, due to the increase in RAM. Likewise, the standard Galaxy S20 is also just a little bit smaller, which might be an important consideration for those who don't want such a large Samsung phone.
