Now Samsung fans have another choice when it comes to its premium Galaxy S20 line at a more affordable price. The company unveiled the new Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition during a live stream on Wednesday. It offers many of the features found in the other members of the S20 line, but what makes the Fan Edition so special?

Samsung launched its flagship Galaxy S20 line back in February with three phones: the S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra. All 5G phones, the S20 line offered some of the most impressive specs found on any smartphone to that date. They all have beautiful, Dynamic AMOLED (3,200 x 1,440) Infinity-O displays with 120Hz refresh rates and impeccable audio. However, the real standout feature is the camera system. All three of these phones can record 8K video at 24fps and the top-end S20 Ultra uses a quad-lens rear camera system, including a 108-megapixel wide-angle lens and a depth-vision camera. It can zoom up to 100 times magnification. The other two have 30x zooms.

Still, these are expensive phones. Even the cheapest one, the Galaxy S20, starts at $999.99 (C$1,199.99 in Canada). In contrast, the new Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is $699.99 (C$949.99). It brings some of the premium features seen in the other models of the line, but has some more modest specs in other areas. Like its sibling phones, the S20 FE can run on a 5G network, uses the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 octa-core CPU with a clockspeed of up to 2.8 GHz and features an HDR10+-certified Infinity-O display with a 120Hz refresh rate to allow for smoother scrolling. In terms of size, the Galaxy S20 FE's 6.5-inch display puts it in between the S20 and S20+, but its resolution is lower (1,080x2,400). However, what it lacks in pixels, it makes up for in pizzazz.

A Colorful Galaxy S20 Phone

All the Galaxy S20 FE color options

The Galaxy S20 FE is easily one of the most vibrant phones on the market. It comes in six different colors: cloud mint, cloud navy (blue), cloud lavender, cloud red, cloud orange and cloud white. It features a haze finish that Samsung says makes it glimmer in the light. This range in color is likely one of the biggest selling points of the phone — after price. Of course, this feature is only appealing if the phone is used with a clear case or without one at all.

The phone features a similar triple-lens camera system as the Galaxy S20. It has wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle lens (both 12-megapixel) and an 8-megapixel telephoto and uses the 30x Space Zoom found on both the S20 and S20+. However, the big difference is that the telephoto lens on the other two phones is 48-megapixel. Unlike the rest of the phones in this line, the S20 FE cannot shoot 8K video. Although since almost no one currently owns an 8K TV, that is unlikely to phase most consumers. The S20 FE also uses a 32-megapixel front-facing camera, which is a little lower-resolution than the S20 Ultra's 40-megapixel one but better than the 10-megapixel on the other two phones.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is 2.93 inches by 6.29 inches by 0.33 inches and weighs 6.7 ounces. It will be available with both 6GB and 8GB of RAM, along with and 128GB of storage - expandable by 1TB via a memory card. A 512GB model with 8GB of RAM also exists and the latest Samsung phone can be pre-ordered now, with an October 2 on sale date.
