Samsung's Galaxy Z line of foldable smartphones is still out of reach for many, but a rumored Galaxy A Fold might be the long-awaited affordable foldable smartphone for the masses. The Galaxy A series is Samsung's best-selling line of affordable smartphones and is made up of entry-level, mid-range, and premium mid-range models. A foldable model will be a good addition to the series, finally taking the form-factor mainstream.

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is one of the cheapest foldable smartphones with a $999 price tag but that is still not a pocket-friendly price. Oppo is rumored to be working on its own clamshell foldable smartphone with a price tag of around $750. That's not a bad price if it turns out to be true, and would earn it the title of the cheapest foldable smartphone on the market.

According to a tipster who goes by the username chunvn8888 on Twitter, Samsung is working on a foldable Galaxy A smartphone. There are no details yet about the phone's design and what specs it will be packing, considering the source did say that it won't be arriving anytime soon. Samsung aims to release it in 2024 or 2025 which is still a few years away. Nevertheless, the lack of details doesn't mean one can't speculate what a foldable Galaxy A smartphone could look like.

What Could A Foldable Galaxy A Phone Look Like?

Samsung may launch a foldable Galaxy A smartphone in a few years

To keep the price tag low, the phone could feature a clamshell design just like the Galaxy Z Flip 3. Samsung might also decide to use LCD for the cover display while the main display may be an OLED panel (but with a 90Hz refresh rate) since foldable LCD panels will probably never make it to market. It has been four years since the first phone with an under-display fingerprint scanner launched and up until now, only phones with an OLED screen have that feature. There were reports that LCD panels with support for an under-display fingerprint scanner would hit the market a few years ago, but it is yet to happen. This makes foldable LCDs even less of a possibility.

Since this will be a mid-range phone, the foldable Galaxy A smartphone is expected to use a mid-range chipset, either from Samsung's Exynos line or one from Qualcomm or MediaTek. Samsung will also likely cut corners with the cameras. In addition, features such as wireless charging may not make the cut and it also might not have water resistance like the Galaxy Z Fold 3. In terms of pricing, Samsung could look at keeping it in the $500 to $600 range, as anything more than that will most likely push folks to non-foldable phones with better specifications.
