Luggage company Samsara has made it easier than ever to track lost bags with a line of suitcases that include AirTags. There have been some intuitive uses of Apple's AirTags since they were introduced in Spring 2021 as an affordable item tracker linked to the company's Find My network. Apple has made it possible for third-party devices to officially license Find My tech, but some alternatives feature original AirTags in new ways.

One of the most annoying travel experiences is the case of lost luggage. Whether a person is trying to get to their final destination or return home, not having their belongings arrive with them is frustrating. There's always a chance that a suitcase or travel bag may get lost in transit, especially during international travel. These situations can be avoided by using AirTags, which update an item's location anytime they come in contact with a location-enabled Apple device. While it might take days or weeks for an airline to find a lost bag, it could be minutes before an embedded AirTag connects with a device in Apple's expansive Find My network, and a new suitcase aims to capitalize on this potential.

Samsara offers a line of suitcases and travel bags that use authentic Apple AirTags to make it easier to find lost or stolen luggage, should issues arise during travel. The company's new Tag Smart range of suitcases comes with an included AirTag. The device is personalized with the Samsara logo and branding on the white plastic body of the AirTag but is otherwise identical to the Apple trackers. This means that if a suitcase is lost or stolen, the AirTag can connect with any device in the Apple ecosystem to identify its current location. Other smart luggage options have featured location tracking before, but none have the network dominance of Apple's Find My network.

A Secure Compartment Conceals The AirTag

Just about anyone can stuff an AirTag into a suitcase or travel bag to track the luggage if it gets lost or stolen. The options offered by Samsara, however, are integrated directly into the bag for increased security. There is a special compartment designed specifically for storing an AirTag, as shown in an installation video posted on YouTube. In the main zipper compartment of the suitcase, a plastic cap can be unscrewed to reveal a home for the included AirTag. The spot is just the right size for the Apple tracker and features a plastic window to ensure the device can connect through the luggage. The AirTag is visible from the suitcase's exterior, but isn't accessible, which makes it a theft deterrent.

Many people are aware that AirTags can be used to track people and items with astounding success due to the tracker's controversy. While the product can be used for its intended uses, it has also been used for nefarious ones like stalking and theft. The Samsara suitcase uses this knowledge to its benefit – would-be thieves can see the tracker, but it's difficult to remove it. The AirTag is only accessible from the inside and the luggage is protected by a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) approved combination lock, making it difficult (but not impossible) to break in and remove the tracker. For this reason, the Samsara lineup of luggage options provides peace of mind absent from other bag choices. People who buy these AirTag-integrated suitcases can rest assured that they have the best chance of obtaining their lost or stolen luggage in the event of a worst-case scenario during travel.
