Sylvester Stallone celebrates wrapping his work on Samaritan with a pair of set videos. Over 40 years after Stallone first broke through with the smash hit Oscar-winner Rocky, the veteran actor continues to pump out movies at a rate worthy of a much younger man.

Stallone of course continues to milk his two most famous roles, appearing in the Rocky spinoff Creed II in 2018 and the alleged franchise-capper Rambo: Last Blood in 2019, but in recent years he has also branched out into less traditionally Stallone-like fare. The actor in 2017 even entered the realm of Marvel movies with his brief but memorable appearance as Stakar Ogord in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It was recently revealed that Stallone will put in his time in the DC Universe as well, working with Guardians director James Gunn again on The Suicide Squad. In the meantime, Stallone has been hard at work on his latest project, an unconventional superhero film titled Samaritan. In the movie, Stallone plays a one-time superhero, believed to be dead, who has actually been living in hiding since his last battle.

Samaritan like many another movie and TV production has been continuing work under strict COVID protocols, and indeed Stallone was recently able to wrap work on the film, as the actor himself confirmed on Instagram. See Stallone’s video postings on Samaritan’s wrap in the space below:

Still in costume as Samaritan (who evidently has been living as a garbage man), Stallone in the first video makes a little speech for the assembled crew, giving everyone a shout out for their hard work on the movie in the face of difficult circumstances. In the second video, Stallone interacts with his Samaritan co-star Javon Walton, who plays the young boy who sets out to find Stallone’s lost superhero character. At least according to Stallone, Walton is going to be a big star thanks to the movie, though Stallone jokingly insists he himself is responsible for giving the film its heart. Interestingly, Walton was a child boxer before becoming an actor, which obviously gives him a unique connection with the man who played Rocky Balboa (it remains to be seen if that connection translates into on-screen chemistry).

Elsewhere in the videos Stallone emphasizes that Samaritan is a “different” sort of superhero movie (or “superhuman” movie as he says), which seems like a marketing hook for sure. In fact, the idea of a washed-up superhero has been tackled in movies before, most notably in Hancock, and it remains to be seen what new twists Samaritan will put on the idea. Having Stallone in the film definitely gives it another selling point, as it represents the legendary actor’s debut playing an actual superhero after years of playing mere mortals who only seemed indestructible (unless the plot required them to be beaten down).
