My 600-lb Life season 9 viewers were given a sneak peek into Samantha Mason's life in December 2020 when she appeared on the show. It didn't take much time for Samantha to pique viewers' interest. She weighed well over 800 lbs and was dangerously close to losing her life to her weight.

Samatha's career was the key factor to her excessive weight gain before joining My 600-lb Life. To make a living, Samatha, who was on My 600-lb Life like Chrystal Rollins, was getting paid to eat food on camera while in her apartment. The reason Samatha chose this as a career path was that she had limited options when it came to finding a job due to her size. She decided to give in and start fetish modeling, which included eating on camera, for a website that catered to people who like larger women. However, her decision to appear on My 600-lb Life didn't end up doing much good for her (via Looper).

Samantha Mason Says My 600-lb Life Mistreated Her

Samantha's experience on the TLC show did nothing for her weight loss journey. She's been very vocal about My 600-lb Life calling the show "the 'let's exploit the fat people and laugh at them publicly' show." Samantha, who was on My 600-lb Life like Kandi and Brandi, said the show was a huge hindrance in her weight loss journey and even accused the creators and producers of mistreatment and disingenuous motives. Samantha has since been ridiculed by trolls online, who believed she joined the show to invite criticism from fans.

However, she's clapped back at her critics on multiple occasions, saying she only joined My 600-lb Life out of desperation and fear for her life. Samatha didn't think the show was as horrible as it was when she signed up. Either way, without the help of Dr.Now and the team over at My 600-lb Life, Samantha was still able to lose around 320 lbs. She attributes most of her success to getting weight loss surgery. Since then, her recovery process has been slow, and she's doing her best to get back to her normal self. As part of her recovery process, Samantha, who was on My 600-lb Life like Bettie Jo Elmore, entered into rehab, saying, "I'm taking advantage of everything that I possibly can in here while I'm trying to heal."

The My 600-lb Life alum has also found other things to redirect her attention to other than food. Samatha's now into coloring books and uses them as a creative outlet while striving to live a healthier life. Samantha's journey on My 600-lb Life wasn't the best, but she has found other ways to live a better lifestyle.
