Journey's End (6.6)

This British war film, based on the 1928 play Journey's End, tells of a group of soldiers who wait out the future from a dugout near the conclusion of World War I. Claflin takes on the role of the intense man leading up the group, Captain Stanhope.

Though the film's release was limited, it received high ratings. The cast was praised for conveying a powerful story with great talent.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (6.6)

The third installment in The Hunger Games series had Sam Claflin once again portraying Finnick Odair, a tribute from District 4 who is picked to re-enter the Hunger Games arena during a Quarter Quell for a fight to the death.

Though Finnick and a handful of other tributes are rescued by the rebellion, he is forced to deal with the emotional aftermath of being picked for the games as well as the looming battle with The Capitol. Thankfully, his beloved Annie is eventually returned to him. Though the book's split into two films was criticized, the strong performances, depth, and heart of the film was praised.

Adrift (6.6)

Sam Claflin starred against Shailene Woodley in this romantic drama film. Based on a true story, Adrift tells of a couple who sets off for a fun trip to San Diego on a yacht, only to sail into Hurricane Raymond and have their boat nearly destroyed.

With Richard becoming injured, it's up to Tammi to find their way home and guide them to safety. The drama, the surprise twist, and the acting had this film getting washed over with love.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (6.6)

Claflin also made an appeared in the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film. This 2011 installment had Captain Jack Sparrow running into a pirate named Angelica, who was a former flame of his. She recruits Sparrow to join her and a zombie crew as they set sail for the Fountain of Youth. The problem? A couple of competing expeditions are also out to track it down first.

Claflin plays Philip Swift, a missionary who has been held on Blackbeard's ship as a prisoner. He also falls for the mermaid Syrena. Though the movie ranked critically low, it still raked in cash at the box office and audience member love.

Their Finest (6.8)

Based on the novel Their Finest House and a Half by Lissa Evans, this British war comedy-drama tells of two 1940s screenwriters who fall for each other while creating propaganda based on the Dunkirk evacuation in France.

While Gemma Arterton takes on the role of Catrin Cole , Claflin portrays her love interest, Tom Buckley. The film received high reviews for the rhythm and interest created by its leads.

Love, Rosie (7.2)

This romantic comedy-drama tells of two best friends who realize they have feelings for each other. A miscommunication, however, has the two entering relationships with other people and Rosie quickly (and accidentally) becoming pregnant with someone else.

The rest of the story continues to show how the couple's lives continue to pull themselves apart and weave back together over the coming years. While Claflin stars at lead Alex Stewart, Lily Collins portrays his forever flame, Rosie Dunne. Though the film was critically criticized for being cliche, audiences loved it nonetheless.

The Nightingale (7.2)

This 2018 Australian period drama tells of a female convict who seeks revenge for a horrific act committed against her during the Black War. While Aisling Franciosi plays the woman who seeks to redeem herself, Claflin plays Lieutenant Hawkins, who commands the British Army unit she is in servitude to.

A heap of controversy surrounded the film for violently depicting murder and rape. Overlooking the brutality of it all, however, the film's heaviness was moving to many who felt it displayed historical realities.

United (7.4)

This British film tells of Manchester United's "Busby Babes" who rose to success in the Football League, only to have the excitement taken away due to the events of Munich air disaster in 1958.

The drama features actors including David Tennant, Jack O'Connell, and of course, Sam Claflin. He played English footballer Duncan Edwards. The human element of the film was applauded.

Me Before You (7.4)

Me Before You tells of a successful banker who ends up becoming paralyzed after being injured in a horrific motorcycle accident. Two years later, Louisa Clark shows up to become his caretaker. Though she falls for him, she must also confront the fact that his end goal is physician-assisted suicide. She sets out to stop him.

The bubbly Lou is played by Emilia Clarke while the man she falls for is taken on by Claflin. Though the heavy topics could have been handled more delicately, the chemistry between the leading pair was unmatchable.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (7.5)

Topping off the list is the second film in the Hunger Games series, which introduced Claflin's Finnick Odair. This installment had former victors of the Hunger Games being dragged into a new arena. This has Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark not only trying to survive the games but also making alliances while watching a rebellion form.

One of the new tributes who Katniss and Peeta make an alliance with is Finnick. The film's special effects, emotion, grand scale, and cinematography has it ranking high in the books of critics and general audience members alike.
