After being on hiatus for almost three years, Saga co-creator Brian K. Vaughn recently confirmed he was hard at work with fellow co-creator Fiona Staples on scripts to bring back the series. The series has been highly anticipated ever since its intermission was announced after issue #54. Now, there is hope that we're inching ever closer to a release date for issue #55.

Writer Brian K. Vaughan (who is currently developing a Buck Rogers TV show) and artist Fiona Staples began publishing Saga back in 2012 through Image Comics. It is billed as an epic space opera/fantasy comic book series that takes a lot of inspiration from Star Wars. In a Romeo & Juliet-esque story, Alana and Marko are from opposing alien races who fall in love and have a child. Together, they must raise their daughter Hazel while running from threats on both sides.

Quoting from Vaughn's Instagram post calling for people to donate to Bob Wiacek's GoFundMe page, ComicBook.com reiterated the creator's notable post-script: "And just to head off the comments, yes, Fiona and I are still hard at work on Saga, and we remain hugely appreciative of the four of you left who haven't completely lost patience with our extended intermission. Hard to believe as it may seem, I promise these new issues will be worth the wait." While it doesn't confirm a release date, it does reignite hope that we'll be seeing Saga return. Preferably sooner than when Vaughn said he felt Hollywood would be ready or capable of crafting a Saga movie and television show back in 2017, which he speculated would be a 15-year wait.

The article also calls back to Vaughn's previous remarks on the length of the series, which is set to be a 108-issue epic, meaning the series is only halfway published at this point. The comic book has won numerous awards, including 12 Eisner Awards and 17 Harvey Awards. The first volume of Saga even won the Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story back in 2013. The series has been called a must-read for fans of Stars Wars and Games of Thrones.

Reigniting the Saga talk and hopefully more official developments in the near future would be a great way to start off the new year. It's also entirely possible that it won't take 15 years for the project to be adapted into a television show or movie. After all, with actresses like Thor: Ragnarok star Tessa Thompson having an interest in such a project, the possibilities for Saga seem better now than ever before.
