SAG Awards 2012 Winners

2012 screen actors guild winners list

The 2012 Screen Actors Guild Awards proved to be a less predictable affair than the 2012 Golden Globes, with some truly deserving performances being recognized by the acting community; but, as always, there were some questionable calls and outright snubs as well.

The Help didn't really need any as the 2012 SAG Awards  as it went on to snag the top honors of the night, with actress Viola Davis snagging a win for her leading role in the film, while Octavia Spencer added to her Golden Globe win by snagging the actress in a supporting role prize.

On the TV side, things were pretty volatile: Aleck Baldwin trumped Steve Carrell for actor in a comedy series, meaning The Office's former manager Michael Scott will head off into the sunset sans SAG award. Steve Buscemi upset Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) and Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston to win in the actor in a dramatic series award, while Betty White trounced younger talent like Tina Fey to win Actress in a Comedic Series. Jessica Lange followed her Globes win with another big award for her dramatic American Horror Story role.

While it was little surprise that Modern Family won for Best Ensemble in a Comedic Series, hardcore TV fans are likely still rankled by the fact that Boardwalk Empire won the Best Dramatic Ensemble award over the Breaking Bad and/or Game of Thrones.
