Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, showrunner on upcoming Netflix series The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina shared a first look image of Sabrina Spellman (Kiernan Shipka) and Harvey Kinkle (Ross Lynch). Last year, Archie Comics found success in bringing its flagship series to television with the debut of Riverdale on The CW. In the show's first season, it earned a dedicated fan base and largely positive reviews from critics. So, Archie Comics struck a deal with Warner Bros. Television that would allow them to bring even more of their comic book properties to the small screen.

Then, news broke that a new take on Sabrina the Teenage Witch would be adapted to TV, specifically adapting The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comic that was published under the Archie Horror imprint. Although Sabrina was originally developed for The CW, the project moved to Netflix with a two-season order and promises of the show debuting later in 2018. Since then, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has rounded out its core cast and started filming, but fans had yet to see what the actors look like in costume - until now.

Earlier today, Just Jared published a slew of set photos featuring Shipka and Lynch in costume as Sabrina and Harvey, respectively. As a result of the first look at the characters leaking prior to an official image, Aguirre-Sacasa posted one of the photos on Twitter, hyping up fans about the adorable couple. Take a look at Aguirre-Sacasa's tweet below:

Aside from offering fans their first look at the characters in costume - and holding hands, of course - this photo doesn't give too much away about the upcoming series. Certainly, the styling of Shipka as Sabrina is very reminiscent of the comics, complete with the black headband and red outfit. Plus, Harvey's outfit is in line with his character's typical all-American style. But we'll have to wait for more photos or a trailer to find out more about their characters, though we do know they'll be involved romantically.

In addition to Shipka and Lynch, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina stars Lucy Davis as Hilda Spellman, Miranda Otto as Zelda Spellman, Jaz Sinclair as Sabrina's best friend Rosalind Walker, Michelle Gomez as Sabrina's high school mentor Mary Wardell, Chance Perdomo as Sabrina's cousin Ambrose, and Richard Coyle as Father Blackwood. Plus, the trusty black cat Salem will be featured in the TV series, though technically he's actually a witch sentenced to live life as a cat by the Witches Council.

As evidenced by the source material for The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and the show's description as being in the vein of Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist, the upcoming TV series will lean a great deal toward horror. The Sabrina the Teenage Witch TV show that ran from 1996 to 2003 had much more of a comedy spin, so it looks like the new series will be incredibly different. Whether fans will connect to a darker take on Sabrina remains to be seen, but Riverdale certainly found success by giving Archie Andrews a much more dramatic adaptation. So, fans of the comics and Riverdale will no doubt be excited to see The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina when it hits Netflix this year.
