Co-stars Ryan Reynolds and Taika Waititi would like to forget about Green Lantern in an interview for their upcoming comedy movie.

Green Lantern co-stars Ryan Reynolds and Taika Waititi pretend they don’t remember the movie during an interview. The pair are set to star together again in the upcoming comedy movie, Free Guy, but maintain that it will be their first time working together. When the question about their Green Lantern history came up, they both brushed it off, acting as if they’ve never heard of the movie. Waititi played Thomas Kalmaku alongside Reynolds as Hal Jordan, a test pilot who becomes the first earthman to join the Green Lantern Corps.

Every actor has a movie or two they’d like to forget. For Reynolds and Waititi, it’s the 2011 Green Lantern movie. Saying the movie was a flop would be an understatement. It received meager ratings with a 26% score on Rotten Tomatoes and an average of 5.5 on IMDb. Though the movie maintained the original storyline of the comics, many other factors made Green Lantern a commercial and critical failure, like the bland character development, clumsy plotline, and of course, studio interference. Reynolds, however, went on to experience success playing a superhero in the 2016 Marvel comic, Deadpool.

During an interview with GamesRadar’s sister publication, Total Film Magazine, the pair played into a question on whether Free Guy would remove the memory of Green Lantern. Waititi responded, saying, “What’s the project you’re talking about? I’ve never heard of it." Reynolds played along to the cluelessness and replied, “I’ve never met him.” Whether he’s trolling his wife, Blake Lively (who also starred in the Green Lantern), on social media, or teasing his co-stars in interviews, Reynolds takes every opportunity to make light of the situation.

Waititi seems excited about working with Reynolds for the second time since, according to him, the pair have a similar sense of humor. Reynolds also noted how shocked he was that Waititi had accepted the role. Free Guy will take viewers on a time-traveling adventure as Reynolds’ character, Guy, seeks to meet his 13-year-old self to save the world.

Green Lantern has been the subject of jokes ever since its poor performance in the silver screens. But the co-stars have taken the failure in stride, often joining the online banter, which led fans to draw something positive from the film.  Both Waititi and Reynolds have had successful careers after the film, Waititi directing Thor: Ragnarok and Reynolds starring in Deadpool, one of the most popular comic movies. Their upcoming movie should be a treat since the pair’s on-screen chemistry is still visible, and they both thrive in comedic films.
