Hank Green posted a TikTok shaming himself for accidentally calling Ryan Reynolds "Ryan Gosling." The author, YouTuber, and general multi-hyphenate began his online career by creating the channel Vlogbrothers. He did so with his older brother John Green, the author behind popular young adult novels like The Fault in Our StarsPaper Towns, and Looking for Alaska. The pair are also the co-creators of VidCon, the premiere convention for fans of YouTube and other online video sources and creators.

John and Hank Green co-host a podcast called Dear Hank & John, which is an advice show that seeks to answer "life's big and small questions." The podcast, which has run for over 300 episodes since its inception in 2015, doesn't always feature guests. However, Reynolds came on for a very special episode resurrecting a long-running podcast joke. The episode was titled "The Ultimate Week in Ryans," referencing a special Patreon podcast titled "This Week in Ryans," which they created in 2017 with the intention to cover different people and things named Ryan. However, during that episode, Hank Green mixed up the plethora of Ryans, calling Ryan Reynolds "Ryan Gosling."

On his TikTok, Hank Green posted a mea culpa for accidentally addressing Reynolds as Gosling on the recent Dear Hank & John episode. It's a common enough mistake, and indeed Reynolds has addressed it himself. However, people usually don't make it directly "to his face," as Green laments over the strains of the popular TikTok sound "Spongebob Sad Song Steel Lick."

The video garnered a series of comments from an eclectic variety of other TikTok users. Comedian Ryan Kelly sent a comforting comment, saying "Aww buddy it happens!!" while advocate/activist FRAZZ shared the rather more ruthless comment "humble him." The official account for the dance music festival Electric Daisy Carnival even chimed in, saying "Go little rockstar." Notably, Ryan Reynolds, who does have a TikTok account, hasn't yet jumped in. However, the social media savvy star surely won't leave such a tempting opening alone.

Hank Green's bread and butter is his ability to bring a sense of reliability and humanity to his audience while sharing important or interesting information. Therefore, he might be embarrassed about the "Ryans" mix-up, but he's certainly staying exactly on brand. The only difference between him and the other TikTok users who follow him is the fact that Green has access to many more famous people to embarrass himself in front of, and will likely do so again.
