Ryan Reynolds launched a streaming service with precisely one movie, as part of a campaign to promote his mobile company's wireless service. Reynolds is not only a movie star but has also recently purchased two companies very publicly - a gin brand called Aviation Gin, as well as Mint Mobile, which provides cell phone plans and, more recently, wireless service. The actor is known for the weird and hilarious ads he produces for each brand, including a recent one for his gin brand, where he added in a bottle of Aviation to a scene from Buried.

Reynolds is incredibly active on social media, using the platform to not only promote his companies but also to release teasers for upcoming projects, like Free Guy, and troll fans, as he did by inserting himself as Green Lantern into Justice League. He also had a long-running fake feud with Wolverine star Hugh Jackman which culminated in Reynolds producing an ad for Jackman's coffee company that ended up insulting him worse than ever.

Reynolds released the latest ad campaign for Mint Mobile+, promoting his company's wireless service, by creating a "new streaming service." The catch? The service only has one movie available to stream - an obscure Canadian movie called Foolproof that Reynolds starred in back in 2003. The film was a disastrous flop upon release and is not well remembered. You can see the ads for the streaming service below

The site for the streaming service, mintmobileplus.com, is real and takes you to a suspiciously familiar-looking layout, combining design elements from several streaming services. The site even has top 10 lists for several categories, including Original Originals, Kind Of Originals, Unoriginal Originals, and US Top 10. But every entry on the site is just Foolproof, featuring different screenshots from the movie, all with Reynolds front and center. The full film is available and ready to watch without having to sign up for anything, making the ad's claim that it is the "most affordable" streaming service in the world technically correct.

It's a typically genius marketing move from Reynolds, and likely cost him almost nothing, given that Foolproof is not the kind of movie to come with a hefty licensing fee. The movie's plot is about a group of friends who plan heists as a hobby, but never actually go through with them. A villain then successfully robs a bank after stealing one of the plans and blackmails the friends into planning and committing more heists. While the film is utterly forgettable, the ad campaign is likely to be less so.

The move is typical Reynolds, who somehow manages to get his marketing teams to come up with ideas that are both innovative and hilarious at the same time. This ad not only will get him attention but is also a not-so-subtle dig at the various media companies around the world desperately scrambling to create streaming services to compete with Netflix. Even the name, Mint Mobile+, mocks the likes of Disney and Apple, who just added a + to their existing name for their streaming services.
