In a recent Instagram exchange, Ryan Reynolds jokingly explains why Chris Hemsworth didn't get a cameo in Free Guy. Ryan Reynolds' new movie, Free Guy, recently hit theaters and has been drastically exceeding expectations both critically and commercially. The film follows Guy (Reynolds), a bank teller who realizes that he's actually an NPC (non-player character) in a video game. The film has been praised for its humor, heart, and action and features Jodie Comer and Taika Waititi in co-starring roles. Free Guy was originally supposed to come out in July of 2020 before it was delayed to December due to Covid-19. The film was delayed once more to August 2021 and was granted an exclusive theatrical window, which perhaps explains why it was able to outperform The Suicide Squad

Free Guy features a number of significant cameos from an array of talented A-listers, who also happen to be Reynolds' friends. The list includes actors like Channing Tatum, John Krasinski, Hugh Jackman, Dwayne Johnson, and Chris Evans (although some of these cameos are harder to spot than others). In many ways, Free Guy is the perfect cameo movie. The wacky, open-world nature of the video game world of the film means that there's plenty of room for celebrity appearances.

In a recent Instagram post, Reynolds thanked those who had cameo appearances in the film, saying "This movie is about friendship. And friendship is at its simplest, just showing up. While I don't have photos of everyone, here's to all the incredible pals who showed up for this film." The post included a carousel of photos of Reynolds with Krasinski, Tatum, Jackman, Evans, and Johnson. The post ended up getting a response from Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth. Hemsworth,  who doesn't appear in the film, sarcastically responded that it was the "least [he] could do." Reynolds jokingly replied, saying "[Chris] Evans said you weren't 'camera ready.' Whatever that means." Check out the post and comments (via commentsbycelebs) below:

It's unclear why Hemsworth wasn't able to appear in Free Guy, but, considering when Free Guy was likely filming, Hemsworth's work in Extraction may have resulted in scheduling conflicts. Although Reynolds' best-known celebrity feud may be with Hugh Jackman, this recent Instagram exchange isn't the first time Reynolds and Hemsworth have jokingly gone at it with each other on social media. Last year, both Reynolds and Hemsworth participated in the AGBO superhero fantasy football league and partook in some hilarious trash talk that even featured Tammy Reynolds, Ryan's mother, calling Hemsworth a "no-good asshat".

While Hemsworth and Reynolds were unable to work together this time around, there's always hope that the two will get to work together in the future, be it a cameo or perhaps even as co-stars. Considering the two actors seem to have similarly dry senses of humor, they would likely make for a very funny and charismatic on-screen duo. With Thor: Love And Thunder due out next May, there's always the chance that Reynolds will appear in some capacity, especially since director Taika Waititi, who also stars in Free Guy, promises a slew of surprises for the new MCU film.
