Actor Ryan Reynolds has received the Canadian 2021 Governor General's Performing Arts Award and was honored with a song from Barenaked Ladies frontman, Steven Page. Reynolds was recently in the Netflix original film Red Notice, alongside Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot. Even though the reviews were less than stellar, the film has been a massive hit for the streaming giant, quickly becoming one of its most viewed originals. Reynolds is also known for his work as the Merc with the Mouth in the Fox X-Men universe films, Deadpool and Deadpool 2, a role he is expected to reprise in the MCU with Deadpool 3.

The Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards is split into seven categories, and Reynolds received the National Arts Centre Award. The awards are given out in recognition of work of an extraordinary nature and significance in the performing arts. The recipients have to contribute to the arts in the past year to be considered. Many of the recipients also find ways to contribute back to their communities. The award is a major honor for Canadians who are involved in the performing arts.

Now, Reynolds has posted a video of him receiving the award. In the video, he is also seen reacting to a music video made for him in honor of receiving the award. The main staple of the video is singer Steven Page, former lead singer of the Barenaked Ladies, creators of the theme used in The Big Bang Theory. He hilariously sings about how they had to call him to sing instead of other popular singers, while also having other notable Canadian figures appear. Check out the full video below:

The video is undoubtedly exciting for Reynolds to watch, as his reaction is tearful and grateful. Reynolds has contributed a lot to the performing arts, bringing in many eccentric performances in some stellar films. He is also known to be involved in helping out his country. During the height of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Reynolds and his wife Blake Lively donated $1 million to food banks in Canada and the U.S. These factors certainly helped him win, but more importantly, he contributed so much for his community. The award shows him that his contributions to Canada and its people go beyond releasing films.

Recently, Reynolds announced he is taking a sabbatical from acting. He just finished work on the upcoming Apple TV+ movie Spirited, which is a new take on A Christmas Carol. Reynolds has had a very busy schedule, appearing in many blockbuster films like Free Guy over the past few years, and has Deadpool 3 coming in the near future. Since he has done a lot for his community and the performing arts, it makes sense that he will be taking a break. Until the next project, Ryan Reynolds can enjoy his break, while also being proud of the award.
