Ryan Reynolds adds some funny product placement into a scene from his movie Buried. Reynolds shot to a new level of fame when Deadpool premiered in 2016, with the long-awaited comic book adaptation breaking records and garnering rave reviews. Prior to his debut as the Merc with a Mouth, however, Reynolds appeared in a slew of projects which spanned genres and mediums.

Buried was one of those projects. The psychological thriller, which was written by Chris Sparling and directed by Rodrigo Cortés, focused on a civilian truck driver named Paul (Reynolds). Based in Iraq, Paul is attacked and buried alive in a wooden coffin. He has only a few items to sustain him, including a flask and a lighter. Debuting at the Sundance Film Festival, the film was greeted with a strongly favorable response from critics and Reynolds was praised for his lead performance. Now that Buried is available to stream on Hulu, Reynolds promoted the movie on social media with a bit of added humor.

Reynolds posted about Buried on his Instagram, sharing a snippet of a scene that features Paul finding solace in his flask. There’s something noticeably different about the scene, though, which the actor alludes to in his caption. It also playfully points to how Reynolds’ public profile has changed in the decade since Buried was first released. You check out Reynolds’ post below.

Hardly subtle, the edited scene includes some heavy product placement for Aviation Gin. Reynolds became the chairman and owner of the company in 2018, appearing in commercials for the brand and helping to steer its creative direction with ads that rely on the snarky and irreverent persona that Reynolds has solidified in recent years. Although he’s always been a familiar face to audiences, appearing in his first movie all the way back in 1993, it’s the actor’s recent accomplishments that have catapulted him into a force in front of the camera and behind the scenes. This shift is reflected in Reynolds’ upcoming slate of blockbusters, including Free Guy and Red Notice, both of which are headlined by Reynolds.

It’s also reflected in the actor’s self-aware caption, in which he commemorates Buried. Reynolds joked that before he became known as Deadpool, he was an actor. A look at the star’s filmography sheds some light on what he means. Reynolds was working regularly and frequently, of course, bouncing from romantic comedies to contemplative dramas. In the process, he’d work with the likes of Sandra Bullock and Emma Stone. But since his time as an established performer, who could adjust to different characters, Reynolds has experienced the kind of success that has helped him to embark on business ventures outside of Hollywood.
